What are the responsibilities and job description for the Consultant III, Bat Biologist position at ERM Group?
ERM is hiring a Consultant III, Bat Biologists for projects in the eastern U.S . Biologists will plan for, lead, and conduct acoustic or mist-net surveys for bats and analyze bat recordings, organize data, and produce reports documenting findings. In addition to bat surveys, the ideal candidate will have experience with other protected species surveys with an emphasis on protected species in the northeast, and wetland delineations. This is a field leadership role requiring strong technical, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Task leadership and performance of acoustic and or mist-nest surveys.
- Biologist must be able to visually distinguish Myotis recording sonograms from other genera.
- Conduct roost emergence counts.
- Conduct hibernaculum surveys.
- Support conducting additional protected species surveys including but not limited to pre-construction nesting bird and other special status species surveys, construction monitoring, and field wetland delineations.
- Maintain, organize, and inventory equipment.
- Prepare daily progress reports and field assessment reports.
- Handheld and sub-meter accurate GPS data collection.
- May also be tasked with conducting desktop constraints analysis using ArcGIS Online.
- Coordinate and lead survey teams.
- Coordinate with site personnel on a daily basis
- This position will require a long-term field deployment and frequent long-distance travel.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or related field.
- 8 years of Bat survey experience.
- Certified as Qualified Bat Surveyor
- Federally permitted for Indiana, Grey, Virginia Big-Eared and/or Northern Long Eared Bats preferred.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency in use of handheld real-time bat detectors (e.g.: Echometer Touch) and visual identification of Myotid bat species by sonogram.
- Positive and effective communication with project or task managers.
- Effective technical writing and oral communication skills.
- Problem solving and decision making skills.
- Detail-oriented, responsible, well organized, professional, and self-motivated.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Pre-exposure rabies vaccinations are not required as no bat handling will be associated with this task.
