Overview
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a pivotal role in enhancing manufacturing efficiency, quality, and productivity within a distribution transformer manufacturing facility. Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for the production of distribution transformers, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
- Design and implement process engineering projects, including the selection and setup of machinery, equipment layout, and workflow optimization.
- Conduct process simulations and modeling to predict production issues and identify solutions.
- Implement quality control processes, monitor compliance with quality standards, and initiate continuous improvement projects to meet and exceed industry standards.
- Conduct time studies to accurately measure work processes, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to streamline operations and enhance productivity.
- Perform cost analysis on manufacturing processes to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency gains.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and finance teams to develop cost models for products and processes.
- Analyze production specifications and capacity data to manage workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout, ensuring optimal use of resources and meeting production targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Production) to integrate new products or changes into the manufacturing process.
- Contribute to and lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to enhance production efficiency and quality.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation for manufacturing processes, including process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify potential process risks and implement preventive measures.
- Support and facilitate the commissioning and decommissioning of production lines and equipment, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Provide technical training and support to production staff and operators, enhancing their understanding of process engineering principles.
- Investigate production problems, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Stay abreast of the latest manufacturing technologies and process engineering techniques applicable to transformer manufacturing.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards in all process engineering activities.
- Support the budgeting process, providing cost estimates for process engineering projects and equipment.
- Liaise with suppliers and vendors to source equipment and materials, ensuring specifications and quality requirements are met.
- Evaluate production data to assess the effectiveness of process improvements and make data-driven recommendations for further enhancements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience with proven experience as a Manufacturing Engineer or Process Engineer, preferably in the distribution transformer or related manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated success in implementing process improvement projects and lean manufacturing principles.
- Experience with CAD software for equipment layout and process design.
- Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other relevant process improvement methodologies is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
