Our ideal candidate

We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Assistant to perform routine, corrective and preventative maintenance on a wide variety of greenhouse setting, building and facility equipment, fixtures, and systems. This is a full-time, hourly position with full benefits.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and performs required preventative maintenance duties.
• Maintain up to date logs of equipment maintenance, issues, troubleshooting, and repairs.
• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide variety of facility plumbing, mechanical, minor electrical, heating, and cooling systems.
• Operate equipment like forklift, tractor, shop equipment and maintain appropriate documentation.
• Support factory tool installs, de-install, and construction activities.
• Maintains clean and sanitary conditions the greenhouses, cold frames, potting area, outside areas, and storage areas.
• Perform general greenhouse work, such as making pots filling, wash and sterilizes pots, maintain irrigation and spray equipment, as well as help with day-to-day operations.
• Assist with summer field preparation and occasional special projects as assigned.
• Work effectively with diverse groups, including support to other departments as necessary.
• Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in greenhouse field maintenance is required.
• Current Forklift and Tractor certification or ability to obtain and maintain certification within 6 months of hire.

• Ability to read and operate basic functions of greenhouse breaker panel.
• Ability to safely operate different maintenance equipment, machines and tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
• Ability to communicate effectively in English; Spanish is helpful but not required.
• Ability to tolerate greenhouse and field elements such as heat, cold, water and dirt.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to take initiative and work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends and/ or holidays on a rotating basis.
