Job Title: Substitute Teacher
Wage/Hour Status: Daily Rate non certified $90/Degreed $105/ Certified Teacher $115

Primary Purpose:
The substitute teacher is responsible for managing an assigned classroom, carrying out appropriate learning activities, and following lesson plans developed by the classroom teacher to ensure that students' education is not disrupted during the classroom teacher of record's absence. The substitute teacher works as a temporary, on-call, at will employee. PISD does not guarantee any amount or period of work.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Must have at least 30 semester hours of college credit or have served 80 hours as a volunteer for the district during the previous school year.
High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be able to follow oral and written directions
Needs to have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
1. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, and emotional development of children.
2. Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and board policies.
3. Administers the lesson plan left by the classroom teacher.
4. Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
5. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
6. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate administrator immediately.
7. Reports to the office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures if necessary.
8. Completes evaluation at the end of the day, checks out with authorized personnel prior to leaving at the end of the day.
9. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Student Growth and Development
11. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
12. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
13. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
14. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
15. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication
17. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Maintain emotional control under stress.
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media
equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
