Part-Time Escape Room Game Master

Escape Oakland is currently looking for part-time employees to join our team in the role of “Operator.” We offer a starting wage of $16/hour plus a 5 star review bonus program. The review bonus offers $25 per 5 star review earned by the employee. A candidate with experience in hospitality, retail, or other customer service roles would be a great fit. Previous experience as an escape room game master or enthusiast is a plus!

Specifically, we are looking for someone with:

• Excellent communication skills (personable and comfortable speaking in front of groups)
• Strong sense of initiative and flexibility (able to think on your feet and troubleshoot software, hardware, and customer service issues)
• A flexible schedule who is willing to work /- 20 hours per week to start, potentially increasing as our venue grows
• The ability to commit to weekend shifts (Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons/evenings, and Sunday afternoons/evenings.)

A plus if you have:

• Weekday availability for special events.
• Basic or proficient knowledge of tools and maintenance.
• Customer sales skills.
• Played an escape room game before!

What does a Game Master do?We’re glad you asked! The majority of the Game Master’s job is to run escape room games.That includes:

• Greeting players as they arrive, signing them in, explaining the rules and ethos of the game, etc.
• Using our game surveillance system monitor teams playing, while providing hints and guidance as needed.
• Post game debriefing with teams and take team photos.
• Reset escape rooms after each game, ensure cleanliness or game rooms and repair or replacing puzzles/decor as needed.

A portion of the job is also administrative:

• Respond to customer phone calls.
• Monitor escape game schedule and assist in making bookings.
• Post game photos to Facebook.
• Promote 5 star reviews and game sales to customers.
• Maintain a clean lobby, office, game rooms, bathroom.
