What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Coordinator position at Essendant?
Primary Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to ensure accurate and timely processing of the weekly, semi-monthly and supplemental payrolls.
Major Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the administration of time and attendance system and non-exempt time imports including payroll file, running reports and PTO accrual exports
- Responds to calls/requests from internal associates and managers with responsibility for advising and answering questions related to payroll and other human resources related services
- Act as a subject matter expert in the areas of payroll and other administrative requirements
- Create payroll import files for one time pay, deduction and hours adjustments
- Runs various pre-check balancing reports
- Exports Garnishment files & PTO balances
- Enters and balances all severance payments
- Identify and make adjustments to short term disability pay and deductions
- Create and update payroll and other HR Services instructional guides
- Trains new team members on payroll process
- Identify areas of process improvement and streamlined tasks related to the payroll function and recommend change in the design or process
- Prepare ongoing and ad hoc reports as requested
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of year-end payroll activities
- Understands and demonstrates Essendant’s core values
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills/Knowledge Required:
- Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail, follow up and problem resolution
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) with ability to interact effectively with all levels through the organization
- Must possess goal driven sense of urgency and customer service responsiveness, with ability to consistently meet or exceed deadlines on all projects and requests
- Strong analytic skills and proven experience in solving problems and identifying recommended solutions

Education and Experience:
- High School/Diploma/GED required, associate’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
- Minimum of 2 years accounting or finance experience required; payroll experience preferred
- UKG Payroll system experience preferred
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills
