What are the responsibilities and job description for the Drilling Assistant position at EST Inc?
As a drill rig assistant, you will work closely with one of our crew chiefs during the drilling process. You will be utilizing drilling techniques that include mud rotary, solid stem, hollow stem, and diamond bit rock cores. Your duties will include handling auger, sampling soils, and maintaining field logs during the drilling process. An addition, you will assist the crew chief with standard maintenance of the drill rig(s) and related equipment. Work for this position is generally performed outdoors, is physically demanding, requires travel and may include long days or work on weekends.
Position is available to be based out of either Burnsville or Rochester, Minnesota office where you will mobilize out of on most days. Work generally within southeast Minnesota or the Twin Cities and surrounding area and drilling crew is expected to return to Rochester office most nights to drop of soil samples and prepare for the next day’s activities. Occasional projects in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, or outstate Minnesota that will require overnight stays.
What You Will Do:
- Prepare/mobilize equipment needed for each days project
- Operate a pick-up truck vehicle (Class D Minnesota Driver’s License and Health Card required)
- Assist on the drill rig including handling augers, sampling soils, and field logs of soil classification and profiles.
- Standard Maintenance/cleaning of equipment, drill rig, support vehicle and other related equipment
- Prepare sample jars and collect and handle soil samples during drilling
- Borehole backfilling/sealing to Minnesota Department of Health Sealing Procedures
- Neatly and accurately complete all required paperwork including field logs
- Adhere to Natl. Drilling Assoc. Drilling Safety Guidelines and promote a safe working environment
- Other duties may be assigned during winter months or other slow periods to include office work, lab work, or field work for other groups.
What You Will Bring:
- Limited experience with drilling acceptable, WSB is eager to teach you!
- Obtain a Medical/Health Card within 30 days of employment.
- Valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License and have a good driving record
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds
- Ability to work extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions
- Available to travel to out of town project sites (occasional overnight stays)
- Good mechanical aptitude a plus!
- Safety conscious individual that adheres to safety rules, guidelines and standards
- Have a positive can-do attitude
- Dependable and trustworthy with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work in team environment as well as independently
- CDL Class A or Class B licensure a big plus, but not required for normal duties.
Our preferred candidate would also have 40-hour Hazmat training, CPR or First Aid training. If not, WSB is willing to train!
