What are the responsibilities and job description for the Drilling Crew Chief position at EST Inc?
WSB is looking for a driven, self-starter who is mechanical to lead a drill rig team. You will be asked to drive the drill rig or semi-truck.
As a drill rig crew chief, you will run one of the WSB drill rigs. Crew will be working on a variety of geotechnical drilling techniques such as, mud rotary drilling, solid stem, hollow stem auger and rock coring. Borings drilled to depths of 5 feet to over 100 feet. You will drive, operate, and maintain the drilling rig and related equipment to drill holes for geotechnical/environmental exploration test borings. Work for this position is predominately performed outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions, is physically demanding (frequently lift/carry 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds), requires occasional travel and rarely may include work on weekends.
Position is based out of Burnsville, Minnesota office where you will mobilize out of on most days. Work is generally within and around the Twin Cities and surrounding area and drilling crew is expected to return to Burnsville office most nights to drop of soil samples and prepare for the next day’s activities. Occasional projects in outstate Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, or Wisconsin that will require overnight stays.
Training Available to Suitable Candidates:
- Personnel not experienced in geotechnical or environmental drilling are encouraged to apply if they are able and willing to learn the trade.
- Some of the Crew Chief Duties Include:
- Drilling soil borings or perform rock cores with a variety of methods in various soils or rock.
- Prepare/mobilize equipment needed for each days project.
- Drive the drill rig or semi-truck to and from sites and the office.
- Maintenance/cleaning of equipment, drill rig, support vehicle and other related equipment
- Meet with utility contractors for site clearing before drilling.
- Crew Chief will be working with a drilling assistant who will assist with drilling activities, visual soil classification, preparing field logs, and maintenance duties.
- Being Safety conscience and adhering to Natl. Drilling Assoc. Drilling Safety Guidelines to promote a safe working environment.
- Maintain proper paperwork/record keeping to comply with DOT requirements.
What You Will Bring:
- Experience operating drilling rigs preferred but not necessary.
- Class A CDL and health card or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, and a good driving record.
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random testing.
- We are looking for someone who is excited and proud of the work they do.
- Ability to self-start in the morning and operate with minimal oversight
- Good mechanical skills
- High School Diploma or GED
