(Bangalore) Senior Manager, Software Engineering

About the Role

At Ethos, engineering and software is the backbone and lynchpin of the company. As an Engineering Leader, you will lead and build a world-class team of engineers. You'll be responsible for building a reliable, secure, scalable, and highly performant technology platform - from our customer-facing application, to our internal admin systems. You'll be responsible for setting priorities with our executive and product team, managing the engineering team, and ultimately shipping the technology that enables us to help customers protect their families' future.

Our stack: Our backend is built in Node.js and Postgres and is totally hosted on AWS. Our front end is built in React/Redux.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with product and executive teams to develop the tech roadmap/strategy
• Responsible for shipping high quality products on time
• Recruit, hire, grow, and retain A engineering talent
• Build a technology brand that enables us to attract the best talent
• Support, develop, and grow our engineering team
• Develop an architecture that is flexible and scalable as we grow
• Build a highly reliable, secure, scalable, and performant tech stack
• Improve critical processes such as on-boarding, interviews, design review process, etc.

Qualifications and Skills:

• 5 years of engineering management experience in high-growth engineering organizations
• 10 years of engineering experience as an individual contributor
• Managed a 25 person team consisting of individual contributors and engineering managers
• Demonstrated track record of shipping complex products in a fast-paced environment
• Excel at translating business problems to technology solutions
• Proven experience hiring and retaining top engineering talent
• Experience managing and growing a distributed team
• Deep experience implementing process best practices within a rapidly growing team
• Experience building focused roadmaps and know how to make difficult trade-offs
• Great at balancing long-term platform investments against short-term business needs
• Exceptional communication, listening, and empathy skills as judged by your peers and reports
