Engineering Manager
Small well-established manufacturing company is looking for an Engineering Manager. This position requires 50% travel between IL and TN to oversee the two manufacturing facilities with approximately 50 employees at each site.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for planning, coordination and management of the Engineering and Quality activities of the Company.
- Ensuring customer orders are engineered and designed in accordance with customer specifications and company standards.
- Responsible for the design and development of new products and modifications and improvements to existing products and establishing specification standards for purchased parts, components, and raw materials.
- Oversees the Engineering department also provides technical assistance to manufacturing, inside sales and the sales department.
- Planning, coordination, and management of the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) to support the delivery of best-in-class products, service, and customer support.
- Champion of change with the goal of adding value for customers, ownership, and employees.
- Direct an engineering and design team in the development of drawings and bills of material for customizable company products.
- Lead the design of products such that they can be manufactured within planned cost, quality, and delivery requirements.
- Establish objectives and monitor project activities to ensure product engineering objectives are achieved as planned.
- Prepare periodic, multi-year engineering plans, analyze competitive product comparisons; establish new product criteria and organize special project teams as necessary.
- Prepare and recommend a department budget and implement systems to control planned expenses, department lead-times and engineering quality.
- Establish and implement training programs as needed to develop employee skills.
- Establish standards of performance for members of the engineering staff and manage related employee performance.
- Ensure engineering standards are established for all purchased, production and process materials; investigate and resolve related issues and assist in the selection of suppliers.
- Identify new product opportunities based on competitive requirements, performance improvements or cost savings opportunities in collaboration with sales and manufacturing departments.
- Work with purchasing and manufacturing to control inventory levels and to ensure adequate levels of materials, finished goods and non-inventory items are available to meet anticipated production and customer requirements in a cost-effective and timely manner.
- Implement LEAN methods to reduce internal cycle times and lead times to internal and external customers and maximize on-time delivery of orders.
- Ensure company conformance with ASME product code requirements
- Participate in formation of the company business plan detailing specific goals and strategies.
- Implement and direct engineering department operating plans consistent with customer service, production, and growth objectives.
- Implement and manage an effective Quality Management System (QMS)
- Develop and implement a quality production program to ensure conformity of purchased material and final products to quality standards.
- Revise and update the quality control manual to incorporate process and procedures of the QMS.
- Develop and maintain a supplier quality program to assure that only high-quality vendors are retained.
- Visit vendor facilities, and meet with customers, quality representatives, and company personnel to discuss and to resolve quality problems as required.
- Establish key processes to support the QMS. These include non-conforming material, corrective action, final inspection, receiving inspection, KQPI’s, etc.
- Perform and develop internal audit processes and procedures.
- Prepare quality reports as required by customers.
- Recommend the purchase of equipment to improve department operating efficiency.
- Develop and implement quality assurance related training programs for employees and ensure all personnel are fully trained.
- Prepare for and represent the company during supplier reviews and related audits.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline
- 7 years of in product engineering
- Previous engineering supervisory experience in an engineered-to-order environment
- Previous experience in boilers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, highly desired
- Working knowledge of PLC-based control systems and/or electrical power products, highly desired
- Minimum of two-three years in Quality-related position
- Working knowledge of ISO 9000
- Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel codes, strongly desired
- Working knowledge of formal quality management systems, engineering systems in an ISO-based environment and design for manufacturability
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $135,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
