The Director of Quality will be responsible for leading the development and sustainment of the enterprise-wide quality and problem-solving culture. This leader supports the development and implementation of the quality management systems, instilling strong problem-solving processes and building effective quality assurance policies and systems that align with our highly variable mix of customer/segment expectations. Additionally, the Director of Quality will provide direction and technical oversight for regulatory, compliance, and quality assurance activities.
Quality Director Job Responsibilities include:
- Safety: actively participate in safety processes to ensure the continued success of the safety program. Maintain knowledge of process through training, perform scheduled observations, and provide quality feedback in order to promote safer work behaviors and conditions. Wear personal protective equipment and other special safety equipment as required (i.e. earplugs, safety harness, gloves, etc.).
- Culture – In conjunction with departmental leaders, build department level systems (people behaviors, culture and processes) to enhance quality and support supervisors in the execution and sustainment of those systems.
- Strategies and policy development: oversee the company’s quality policy development to assure alignment with customer requirements, company strategic goals, and cultural expectations. Working with peer groups, ensure functional departmental goals for quality performance are aligned and integrated throughout the enterprise.
- Promote the use of quality tools: be an advocate for the use of core quality tools and processes throughout the organization. This will include leading by example with high risk problem solving / RCCA process execution.
- Directing specific activities and functions: directs and coordinates the activities of teams engaged in quality functions including; NDE processes, quality system sustainment, manufacturing process control and overall customer contract compliance.
o Directs the leadership resources related to product quality, industry and customer specific quality systems, customer contract compliance and inspection activities.
o Directs activities that ensures compliance with the customer requirements, quality policy, company standards, regulatory and external standards
o Establish policy and provide oversight to company supplier quality program, ensure effective supplier quality programs are developed and effectively implemented.
o Development of direct reports.
- Interacts with Production, Sales and Engineering: effectively interact with production, sales and engineering teams to ensure that appropriate quality resources are allocated to meet customer expectations. Works with peers to enhance business systems between office and operationally functions to improve business process which support quality.
- Quality Metrics: develop, implement, and maintain internal quality performance metrics that are aligned with customer expectations, driving business improvements.
- Improvement: be a catalyst for change and improvement busines performance. This includes both quality and other continues improvement efforts.
- Quality Training Needs: assist company to identify company level training needs for quality.
- Companywide communication: develop communication strategies in support of quality cultural and business process goals. Actively participate in companywide communication
- Customer Communication: represent company as we effectively communicate with customers (including senior leaders) and 3rd party auditors regarding specification requirements, manufacturing and process capabilities, and questions / complaints related to quality systems, product, processes or documentation.
- Roll-out customer requirements: oversee the development of policies, systems and procedures as they relate to quality to ensure product conformance. Communicate and provide training to personnel regarding execution of procedures and interpretation of specifications/drawings as they apply to the technical manufacturing, testing and inspection requirements invoked by customers.
- Participate and lead structured problem-solving events: ability to lead and / or work with cross functional teams to identify root cause and develop and implement positive corrective action(s) to correct identified problem(s). These efforts may include customer problem solving teams.
Quality Director Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Metallurgy (or equivalent). Certified Quality Engineer (ASQ) preferred.
Masters in Business or Engineering Preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years quality assurance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Six Sigma Black Belt with multiple projects completed. Experience in the metals industry and/or metallurgy
knowledge preferred.
Required Skills:
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Proven ability to effectively develop and train professional and non-professional personnel.
- System leadership or auditor exposure to “high specification” quality systems (military, nuclear, aerospace)
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite and exposure to ERP systems
- Technical skills requiring extensive experience: FMEA and Control Plans, 8-D structured problem solving.
- Other technical skills include: APQP, 6S and lean tools, value stream mapping (VSM), TPM, and root cause
analysis, statistics, GD&T.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
