Job Overview
The Facility Maintenance Supervisor is required to plan, coordinate, implement and document the required support activities for the Facilities Department. This role will coordinate with internal and external customers in a GxP environment and is responsible for ensuring all activities are documented following Good Documentation Practices (GDP), quality compliance requirements, applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and all applicable state and local laws and regulations. The areas of responsibility of this position are part of a brand-new expansion project just entering commercial operation, so it offers those interested a unique opportunity to learn new technologies and create systems and expectations that will maintain the Facilities in the best manner possible.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining all facility equipment and plant utility systems including but not limited to heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC), plant chilled water, plant boilers, plumbing, painting, electrical utilities, and general upkeep of the physical plant.
- First-Line Supervision for a team of facilities mechanics to schedule work orders based on the priorities and ensure all documentation is compliant with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Continuously monitor the facility, automation and control systems along with Building Management System (BMS)/Environmental Monitoring System (EMS). Evaluates facilities systems to determine if improvements need to be made to improve equipment reliability.
- Perform work in GMP areas, including aseptic processing/laboratory areas in a GxP compliant manner with prior approval of department heads.
- In depth understanding of HVAC principles, electrical distribution systems (including backup power generation), boilers, chillers, air compressors, clean utilities, and other related facility systems.
- Understand quality systems including; Change Controls, Deviations, CAPA’s, Investigations and Audits for Facilities and associated Systems.
- Plan and maintain spares and consumables for min-max and re-order levels.
- Schedule and coordinate periodic maintenance work/calibrations/inspections with external agencies/contractors.
- Ability to plan and execute maintenance shutdown events.
- Assists in the development and administration of assigned budget; forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and projects.
- Participates in the design, construction, integration, modification, and maintenance of CAPEX projects, including soliciting bids from external contractors.
- Adept in using CMMS systems, ERP for department purchasing and receiving, and creating/achieving department goals/metrics such as daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual KPIs.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Forms for maintenance related SOPs and coordinate with stake holders to ensure safe and compliant installation on time and within budget.
- Responsible for the oversight of soft services such as security, housekeeping, and associated consumables.
- Conduct performance appraisals and recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, discipline and terminations.
- Increase Safety Awareness and address any safety issues and concerns and ensures that equipment meets all relevant Health, Safety and Environment requirements.
- The position will be supervising both day and off-shift mechanics. So, while the work hours are first (day) shift, the ideal candidate will be available for after hour emergencies as necessary.
Qualifications - Skills & Requirements
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong planning, organization and prioritization skills with an ability to lead a team of mechanics.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
- Ability to write reports, justifications, procedures, work orders and investigations.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with departmental staff, both written and verbal.
- A strong work ethic, integrity, stability, sense of urgency, fairness, and a desire and willingness to take ownership and assume responsibility for the operation
Education & Experience
- Associate Degree in facility management, business administration, or related field (preferred)
- Professional certifications (Electricians License, Blue/Black Boiler Operator License, HVAC License, etc.) (preferred in lieu of Associate Degree)
- 3-5 years Facilities Maintenance Supervision experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.
- Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
