 The Deal’s Head of Sector Coverage will provide leadership to our growing staff to develop exclusive pre-M&A content.

This editor will be responsible for the development of breaking news and idea-generative articles with a focus on The Deal’s sector beat reporters in healthcare, industrials, technology, consumer/retail and more. The editor will work in regular meetings with staff members to set and achieve clear goals for contributions including standards for well-sourced news and analysis.

The editor will work closely with the Managing Editor to develop a strategy to share leads and help reporters develop new sources, build their brand within their respective industries and hone their coverage.

Leading from the front and setting an example is also key to this role. The Head of Sector Coverage will balance their time between coaching and editing copy from staff reporters while producing their own pre-M&A content that is of interest to The Deal’s sophisticated audience of investment banks, private equity firms and legal professionals.

KEY OBJECTIVES

• Work with sector reporters to produce daily exclusive, analytical and idea-generative content with a focus on key market players and the advisers behind those companies.
• Write a mix of breaking news, features and enterprise stories to be published to The Deal’s premium subscription website.
• Help develop strategy around exclusive and scoop-centric content for The Deal.
• Manage production of key newsletters to disseminate pre-M&A content

 KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• A great eye for news, generate market moving insights and have an ability to translate complex market concepts into simple language for our readers
• A strong willingness to work the phones and go to regular face-to-face meetings to develop strong relationships with industry insiders and observers
• Demonstrate ability to break financial news and analyze situations on the fly while working under a deadline
• A track record of writing clean, thoughtful copy
• Self-motivation and initiative
• The ability to decipher and digest complex financial information
