    SALARY
    This is a 52 week position. (240 days)
    Salary commensurate with experience, skills, education and training.
    Annual Salary: $83,200

    This position is eligible for medical, dental and vision insurance coverage on the employee, spouse, and eligible dependents.     Retirement:
    This position will automatically be enrolled in the Indiana Public Retirement Fund (INPRS) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). In addition, this position is eligible to enroll in a 401(a) retirement investment plan, a 403(b) Match Program, and a tax-free post-retirement medical expense account (VEBA).

    Additional Benefits:
    Employees enrolled in an EVSC medical insurance plan are eligible to use our Health & Wellness Centers conveniently located within the community. These are no-cost health clinics that provide primary care treatment, generic prescription medications (at no cost), physicals, health screenings, and labs. Accumulated sick leave days and personal business days will be provided under this position as well. Additionally, EVSC employees have access to EVSC Wee Care, our employee-only early learning centers. Wee Care provides a quality early learning experience for children as young as six weeks through age five.

    SUMMARY:
    Leads efforts to develop and implement an articulated K-3 Curriculum (focus on reading, English Language Arts) and instructional methods based on current research, practical experience, state guidelines, and community expectations. Formulates and implements staff development to ensure classroom implementation of early literacy best practices and curricula. Analyzes data from standardized assessments and develops plans for improvement in score results. Interviews prospective teacher candidates and assists in the evaluation of personnel. Serves as a part of the Core Content Professional Learning community. Coordinates other duties assigned by the Director of Curriculum.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
    • Research and facilitate the development of a vertically aligned curriculum K-3 (focus on reading and English Language Arts).
    • Research best practice; prepare and distribute materials/resources to supplement instruction.
    • Analyze data from standardized formative and summative testing (ILEARN, NWEA, IREAD, Dyslexia Screeners, etc.) and facilitate adjustment of curriculum and instruction as needed.
    • Keep up to date with current Indiana legislation and policies, including Indiana Reading Plans. Support schools in creating/updating Indiana Reading Plans as needed.
    • Serve as district reading specialist with training in dyslexia, overseeing district dyslexia programming, including awareness and screening training.
    • Collaborate with OPAR and other departments as needed to ensure state-mandated dyslexia screeners are implemented within mandated timelines, and that the next steps are communicated to schools and families.
    • Coordinate with the ELA 4-12 Director to help identify and provide appropriate interventions for struggling readers in those grades.
    • Partner with schools, universities, and literacy experts to provide opportunities for advancement in the knowledge and skills related to the science of reading.
    • Provide staff development opportunities for teachers and administration as needed to ensure classroom implementation of best practices and curricula.
    • Collaborate with the Director of MTSS to research and facilitate the implementation of a robust district-wide response to intervention/remediation plan for essential literacy skills in K-3.
    • Participate in the interviewing process for positions related to curriculum area/grade levels.
    • Assist in the evaluation of teachers and coaches as assigned.
    • Work with administrators, counselors, and teachers in formulating policies and procedures related to the area of responsibility.
    • Share responsibility for change as needed to ensure student success.
    • Stay abreast of current research in education and apply knowledge as warranted.
    • Meet regularly, communicate and collaborate with department heads, other core curriculum directors, and instructional coaches.
    • Conduct process for resource adoption and curriculum development.
    • Secure additional funding sources, formulate and manage budgets related to area of responsibility.
    • Coordinate with Title I and Title II initiatives.
    • Coordinate special assignments.
    • Maintain appropriate student records.
    • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Curriculum.
    • Maintain regular attendance.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supervise teachers and department chairs in activities within the supervisor’s area of responsibility.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
    Master’s degree with a major area of study in the specified subject preferred. Five or more years of teaching experience in public schools are preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
    Valid teaching and administrative license. The candidate will have or will work toward LETRS training certification, and as an Indiana Reading Specialist with training in dyslexia.
