About the position:
The Billing Department Manager will be responsible for leading and managing billing operations including managing billing staff, timely claim filing, insurance claim follow-up, charge posting, reimbursement and insurance overpayments in a manner that is compliant with governmental and payer-specific billing requirements and regulations. This position requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan and manage the department.
Job duties:
- Managing a large team of Ophthalmology Billers
- Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of all contracted insurance plans and fee schedules including remaining current with fees and reimbursement changes as they relate to contractual agreements.
- Establishing and maintaining contacts with external vendors such as payers, clearinghouse, coding/reimbursement experts.
- Understanding and effectively utilizing billing systems.
- Collaborating with physicians to identify ongoing revenue cycle issues and participating in process improvement initiatives.
- Utilizing analytics to track data regarding payors, rejected claims and A/R days outstanding.
- Demonstrating an understanding of HCFA 1500 claim forms, CPT, ICD10 and HCPCS.
- Maintaining current knowledge of all Federal, State, and compliance regulatory requirements related to billing and insurance.
- Hiring, orientating, supervising, and evaluating Billing staff; initiating and implementing disciplinary action as needed.
- Developing and conducting education/training sessions.
- Creating a positive work environment for staff through team building, coaching, constructive feedback, work delegation, personal example, and goal setting that encourages creativity, open dialogue on work issues, professional growth, and a consistently high level of performance.
- Communicating any problems that are identified concerning any discrepancies in coding levels and documentation.
- Collaborating with others to improve efficiency and operations.
- Educating all departments and staff to meet regulatory compliance.
- Maintaining confidentiality, adhering to all HIPAA guidelines
- Maintaining and supporting evidence-based practices in the Billing/Collections Department.
- Ensuring compliance with national standards and initiatives.
- Promoting individual accountability to the organizations Mission, Vision, Policies, and Procedures.
- Performing other related duties and working on special projects as requested by management.
Job Requirements:
- High School diploma required. Bachelors degree in business/health care administration or related field and a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential is preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Looking for someone with Nextgen Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of Medical billing, reimbursement, and revenue cycle experience. Knowledge of insurance claims processing, third-party reimbursement principles, and concepts. Exceptional knowledge of CPT, ICD-9/ICD-10, HCPCS coding, billing & medical terminology. Knowledge of Medicare, OIG, HIPAA, State & Federal statutes, and regulations. Previous supervisory experience required.
- At least 3 years of Management experience leading a team
- Excellent oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to work well independently but ask for help when needed. Ability to analyze and interpret information, ability to interact and decipher information telephonically and electronically.
