What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coder III position at Exeter Hospital?
Utilizes appropriate coding guidelines to assign ICD and CPT codes; conforms to applicable Medicare, Medicaid and other third party payer guidelines to ensure receipt of accurate reimbursement; works in collaboration with the Clinical Documentation Improvement team to ensure accurate DRG assignment and works closely with management to resolve problems and meet deadlines.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3-5 years experience
- Current RHIT, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), CPC or other approved coding credential
- Completion of AHIMA/AAPC coding program preferred
Major Responsibilities:
1. Applies broad guidelines to specific coding situations, independently utilizing discretion and analytic ability.
2. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
3. Demonstrate proficiency in ICD 10 CM and CPT4 coding classification systems, diagnosis and procedure selection, and sequencing guidelines.
4. Demonstrates competence with the Official Coding Guidelines
5. Maintains coding productivity and accuracy standards as established by the Coding Department.
6. Assists with updates to the computer system and Coding Software.
7. Assist other Coders by monitoring Coders Mailbox for identification of accounts that need additional follow up.
8. Demonstrates skill with DRG and APR assignment Present on Admission Indicators and advanced knowledge of APC prospective payment systems.
9. Assist other coders with resolving claims denied due to edits and updating the patient abstract from the ignored edit reports.
10. Performs audits and other duties as assigned.
