We’re looking for a motivated Lead Experience Designer to help us envision and deliver customer experiences that make transportation experiences delightful. Shopping for a flight. Trying to use a flight credit from a cancelled flight. Renting a Car. Booking a cruise. These experiences all have difficult moments that we are working to convert into delightful ones.

As a Lead, you operate at the intersection of strategy, craftsmanship and design. You live for creating simplification out of complexity and strive for elegance in your work. You’ll work in and lead a multidisciplinary design pod that includes researchers, product designers, and content designers, and your work will extend from defining the future state of our experiences to defining new standards or conventions for our platform design system. With a focus on user insights, team building and the highest quality user experience design, your team crafts compelling solutions that are intuitive, creative, thoughtful, simple and delightful. What you’ll do:

  • You'll be responsible for the design — the plan for design, as well as the approach to design — for a key product area

  • As a leading voice in design, you'll also serve as an advocate and role model for our junior team members

  • Build a toolkit of methods for facilitating the gathering and synthesizing of diverse insights in ambiguous problem spaces

  • Work with product partners to understand variables and complex constraints for products and interpret them into elegant designs

  • Develop empathy and insights about customers based on data and insights from research and other customer data sources and apply these insights to improve our design

  • Map out the tasks and timeline for efforts, then help drive the team forward for success

  • Thoughtfully facilitate idea generation with partners and partner with product and engineering partners to create alignment and keep the work on track to delivery

  • Influence strategy for by using compelling materials that harness human, business, or landscape insights to articulate a coherent UX vision based on clear, practical problem/opportunity statements and defined customer experience success metrics

  • Be a person the team can learn from but also someone willing to learn

  • Demonstrate expertise in common visual and interaction design principles and practices, and create appropriate sketches, wireframes, flows, design comps, and prototypes with minimal guidance

  • Apply and adapt design and research processes to fit needs of project

Who you are:

  • Skilled in solving for complex problems with lots of variability

  • A strong history of mobile-first designing along with a deep knowledge of mobile interaction patterns for both applications and mobile web

  • Strong appreciation for human-centered design and outstanding customer experiences, and a proven history of working collaboratively with creative and business partners

  • History of developing cohesive, compelling strategic visions for experience, product, and service challenges in complicated spaces

  • Positive outlook, proactive self-direction, and resilient mentality

  • Willingness to learn about the inner workings of the travel industry

  • Desire to work closely with product and engineering to build digital products that are compelling, valuable, and practical

  • Bachelor's in Human Computer Interaction, User Experience; or related technical field; or equivalent professional experience
