Senior Data Engineer
Do you want to join a team that is integral in building the next generation Conversation platform for Expedia Group?
In your role as a Senior Data Engineer in the Conversation Platform and Customer Experience Data Intelligence team, you will work on building the data pipeline for powering Conversation Platform’s end-user reporting.
Your expertise will help drive long term strategic direction, design requirements, features, functionality, and necessary improvements. You will also be responsible for collaborating with internal partners and stakeholders to implement effective solutions to support both strategic and tactical team needs.
What you'll do:
Customer Engagement: Accountable for partnering with internal and external business stakeholders to provide them the ability to make decisions and gain insights through data visualization and reporting. This would include requirements gathering, iterations, visualization best-practices, design, deployment, and on-going enhancements
Innovation: Proactively drive value with innovative solutions and delivering improved upon methods of data presentation by focusing on the business need and the business value of the solution
Data Analysis: You will drive data investigations across organizations to deliver a resolution of technical, procedural, and operational issues
BI Development: Subject Matter Expert (SME) with report development, dashboard development, SQL queries, and meta-data layers. Experience with Agile development methodology is required
Problem Solving: Lead peers and stakeholders as a SME through troubleshooting, analysis of results, Production Support, and identification of opportunities to solve Business problems through BI
Storytelling: Solve Business challenges by leading the translation of data, impact of that data, and be able to effectively communicate the story that the deliverable tells or the problem that the deliverable solves
Leadership: Inspire team members by being the thought leader, providing peer support, and constantly challenging the team for the best results. You will influence large scale projects to set the future direction for conversational data and analytics across Expedia
Software Development: Design, develop and implement software modules related to transforming and manipulating data
Who you are:
7 years of hands-on experience data engineering
Experience with Agile development methodology. The ability to work under pressure, to fixed deadlines and a flexible approach to working hours (when required) to meet deadlines
Understand data visualization concepts and best practices. Methodical, accurate and with attention to detail
Good understanding in Event-driven systems, microservices, Confluent Kafka, Data Warehousing and ETL
Experience working with AWS services - S3, ECS, EC2, Lambda, RDS, SNS (or Apache Kafka), SQS, Data-Lakes, and AWS cloud deployment models
Expert level understanding on cloud-based databases like snowflake. Working knowledge on Qubole, Apache Druid is preferred
Experienced in engineering data pipelines using big data technologies (Hive, Presto, Spark, Dremio etc...) on large scale data sets
Professional experience with Python, Java, Spark, or similar programming languages and experience in Maven, Faust, Spring framework
Bachelor’s or Master's in Computer Science and Information Systems or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
Background in e-commerce, reporting and analytics role
