Position Summary:
The function of the Digital Imaging Technician I is to provide necessary technical support to clients and staff. This support includes basic knowledge of technical support functions to include photomicrographic image and whole slide image acquisition of histologic slides, organization and maintenance of stored images and metadata, the retrieval of images and metadata to fulfill requests, and assisting in general facilities and equipment operations. This position is pivotal to the mission, daily, annual, and long-term objectives of EPL.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Show competency with whole slide imaging workflows
- Learn to inventory, inspect, verify, and assemble whole slide images and related metadata in a systematic and orderly fashion
- Learn to capture still or whole slide images according to client requirements (resolution, format, etc.)
- Become familiar with imaging workflows and database searches
- Learn to enter activities and image data into databases, spreadsheets, and worksheets
- Learn to verify the quality and completeness of imaging projects and related metadata to ensure specifications are met for storage and distribution to clients
- Ensure work processes meet project and study requirements, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety policies, and agency requirements
- Recognize potential problems with equipment and/or supplies and present problems to supervisor
- Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and staff
- Implement new or improved procedures, technology or equipment when approved to solve problems or increase efficiency per company policies and SOPs
- Ensure histologic slides received from other sites are properly inventoried and maintained
- Review SOPs and make recommendations to Histology Supervisor
- Participate in staff and team meetings as appropriate
- Maintain inventory of supplies for whole slide imaging
- Learn histologic techniques
Position Requirements:
- High School Graduate or equivalent plus 3-5 years of relevant experience. In lieu of experience, a bachelor’s degree in a related scientific/medical discipline.
- Ability to pay close attention to details
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Previous histology experience and courses are helpful
- Basic knowledge of scientific, histologic, and medical terminology
- Basic knowledge of image and image management system databases and their functions
- Basic knowledge of image acquisition procedures and equipment
- Basic knowledge of the client flow of materials and database entries/searches
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (mainly Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Word), Adobe Acrobat, and electronic file transfer providers
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Work effectively alone or as a member of a team
- Ability to adapt to changing technology, procedures, priorities, and tasks
