What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Scheduler position at Eye Care Specialists / Boston Laser Eye?
Responsible for providing administrative and scheduling support for all the surgical procedures. The Surgical Scheduler is a highly motivated and energetic individual who has the ability to effectively identify patients’ clinical needs and personal preferences and help them to select products and services based on their personal goals. To be successful, this team member will need to be knowledgeable of all products and services, able to develop a rapport and identify customers’ needs, able to match solutions to needs, answer questions and concerns and help patients make good decisions. The Surgical Scheduler will also be responsible for working with patients on financing options/payment terms, etc., scheduling operative procedures and follow-up appointments and reviewing the surgical packet with the patient/family (operative consent, preoperative and post-operative instructions, patient rights and responsibilities etc.)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Discusses lens options with patient after the patient has met with the doctor.
- Develop criteria for profiling patients for regular and/or premium services/products
- Develop process to learn about patients and provide information to help with informed decision making
- Meet with patients and discuss their goals, preferences and options
- Coordinate discussions with physician and carrier for financing company to finalize decision
- Follow standard operating procedures including but not limited to the following:
- Prepare and provide/send patient information packets
- Schedule surgical appointments and post-operative appointments with patients
- Review medications, medical history form, rights and responsibilities of patient
- Obtain medical clearance for patient for surgery as directed by surgeon
- Review fasting policy for surgical procedure
- Ensure necessary consent forms signed (medical and financial)
- Review patient clinical record to ensure all necessary measurements and testing have been completed
- Verify health insurances and communicate financial responsibility and options with the patient
- Prepare surgical clinical record and all necessary records prior to surgery
- Review operative consent with the patient/family
- Review preoperative and postoperative instructions with the patient/family and answer questions about the operative process
- Arrange transportation services as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience as Ophthalmic Tech or Medical Assistant. Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Proficient Computer Skills – with background in Excel and Microsoft Word
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology
