Position Overview: Ophthalmology technician work with ophthalmologists, medical doctors who specialize in the diagnoses and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. Ophthalmology technician work in a number of capacities, including assisting during eye surgery and setting up and performing maintenance on equipment. In addition, ophthalmology technician often perform diagnostic testing, including measuring a patient's vision, checking eye pressure, motility, and other task requested by the doctor.
Responsibilities:
- Assures complete and proper documentation of care provided and results of testing in the EMR system and assures proper input of facility charges for the services rendered
- Communicates patient's needs, concerns, and clinical observations to the Ophthalmologists and residents of the clinic
- Cleans patient care equipment and rooms, stocks supplies for the clinical care of the patients, maintains a safe and clean environment
- Assists the Ophthalmologists, residents and other healthcare team members during the care of the patient in the clinic
- Performs patient teaching as directed on care processes during and after office visit
- Preform manual refraction
- Evaluates cornea and anterior segment including anterior chamber depth, performs EOM and confrontation fields
- Performs assigned diagnostic tests for the evaluation of the eye structure and function including but not limited to: Keratometry, Pachymetry, intraocular pressure tests, OCT, Slit Lam Photos and more.
- Performs visual acuity at distance and near utilizing appropriate diagnostic testing equipment
- Administers medication as per physician protocol
- Provides guidance and support in all clinical functions and diagnostic testing for Ophthalmic Assistants as required
- Obtains patient ocular and related medical history and records in EMR system accurately
- Corneal Crosslinking and Lasik experience is a Plus
Qualifications:
- 2 years of ophthalmic experience in full service ophthalmic setting
- COA certification or greater is a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solver with analytical skills.
- Personable; empathetic with patient's needs and concerns.
- Well-organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to work as a team member
- Internal candidates must be employed for a minimum of six consecutive months to be eligible to apply.
