Manages the county’s vendor master file and related processes. Files all federal and state information returns in compliance with current federal and state laws and regulations. Manages the levies, liens, garnishments, and backup withholdings processes in compliance with federal and state laws. Serves as the subject matter expert for county policy and tax law relating to vendor payments and 1099 reporting, including assisting counterparts as needed. Provides accounting guidance and support and assists agencies with reviewing and analyzing complex accounting transactions. Researches complex accounting issues and recommends solutions, means of implementation, and updates to accounting policies related to assigned areas. Supervises professional and paraprofessional staff. Works under the supervision of the Accountant III. Note: Salary offer will not exceed the mid-point of the salary range $88,138.96.The telework policy for this position allows teleworking up to 40% of the weekly working schedule which generally equates to a maximum of 2 days a week teleworking and at least 3 days a week in the office at the Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax, VA.

MINIMUM QUALIFICTIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”)Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting; or a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field that has been supplemented by at least 18 credit hours of intermediate level accounting or higher; plus, two years of professional accounting experience, including one year of experience working with automated accounting systems. CPA certification, or a master's degree in an appropriate field, may be substituted for one year of required experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with 1099 reporting, interpreting IRS rules, and conducting tax research.Experience with vendor file management.Licensed CPAAbility to work effectively with minimal supervision, prioritize multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.Accepting responsibility and taking initiative to ensure accomplishment of the core missions. Excellent communication skills with the ability to address a wide audience.Demonstrated experience processing and analyzing complex financial transactions.
