Qualifications
Orders and receives painting supplies, handle questions or concerns regarding wall finishing products, prepares surfaces and properly applies coatings of paint or other wall coatings. Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisors, managers of Environmental Services.
Responsibilities
- Reports defective or inoperative equipment unsafe conditions, repairs needed, damages, lost and found, patient items left behind according to departmental and hospital procedures.
- Reports rooms that need to be thoroughly cleaned and/or stripped or refinished.
- Fills out incident reports as needed.
- Attends all required in services and staff meetings.
- Prepares surfaces to receive paint coatings to ensure proper acceptance of coat of paint.
- Removes all loose, peeling, flaking material and dust prior to applying coatings of paint to ensure proper bonding to surface. ·
- Ensures all surfaces are prepared to smoothness with cracks and/or holes filled to obtain the desired result.
- Ensures all surfaces are sufficiently dry to receive new coatings.
- Paints wood, metal, plaster and other surfaces with brushes, rollers or spray equipment to provide protection and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
- Applies paint properly to leave coatings with a smooth finish, evenly applied with no streaking runs, or thin spots to obtain the desired result.
- Ensures surface not receiving a new coating is protected from spillage, splatters, drips, carelessness and over spray to maintain other surfaces appearance.
- Applies coatings of flat surfaces, covering 300 square feet per hour under normal work conditions
- Tapes and floats sheetrock to prepare for application of wall covering or paint.
- Prepares sheetrock walls by taping and floating all joints, edged and mail holes to provide a clean smooth and solid wall for application of coatings.
- Applies sheetrock tape and mud at a rate to prepare 100 linear feet per hour under normal work condition
- Strips and refinishes old furniture to recycle and provide an alternative to purchasing new items.
- Removes all existing finish by strip solution and sanding to prepare surfaces to receive new coatings.
- Applies new coatings of stain, sealer and varnish in the recommended manner to achieve wood grain effect using prescribed methods.
- Glazes and caulks as directed to fill cracks and holes.
- Applies caulking to corners, cracks or crevices at a rate to cover 150 lineal feet per hour under normal circumstances.
- Applies glazing and caulking to leave surface smooth and sealed to meet standards of finish work.
- Plans the application of wall covering to prevent waste.
- Controls use of supplies so as not to waste products and keep records of products used to provide for accurate and quantitative records.
- Ensures products remain in a secure area.
- Properly cleans and stores all equipment to prolong life of each item.
- Ensures parking lot lines are applied in a smooth and straight line to achieve the proper effect.
- Paints and letters signs with stencils to produce visual displays.
- Ensures all lettered signs are correct and properly aligned.
- Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
- Assumes additional responsibilities and completes other projects as assigned by Supervisor. Is willing to float to other areas and perform specialized duties as required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Five or more years of experience in a commercial setting or 5 plus years as a journeyman in a commercial setting.
PREFERRED:
- Two year Vocational Training Course for Painting Wall covering Minimum
