The family investment office is a dynamic, multi-disciplined investment firm with a focus on early- stage venture capital investing. The investment office serves as the investment arm of the well- established family office for a Boston-based family. The family has a long and successful history in the financial services sector and has built a family office team and investment strategy that reflects this experience. The investment firm also manages a diverse investment portfolio consisting of direct investments in public and private equity. The firm is focused primarily on investments in consumer goods, digital platforms and healthcare and the firm takes a long-term approach to investing across these verticals.
The firm is seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial investment professional to join as the Director of Investment Strategy. This leadership role will involve the sourcing and analysis of early-stage investments, the management of direct and indirect investment strategies, and the expansion of the firm’s overall investment structure and strategy. The Director will report directly to the family and manage the existing investment team, ensuring the alignment of the firm’s investment efforts with its long-term strategic goals.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
o Develop and implement the firm’s investment strategy, focusing on expanding the direct investment portfolio and identifying high-potential early-stage opportunities in consumer goods, digital platforms, and healthcare.
Deal Sourcing and Analysis
o Lead the sourcing, due diligence, and evaluation of new investment opportunities, leveraging industry networks and market analysis to identify and capitalize on emerging trends.
Direct and Indirect Investing
o Manage and optimize both direct and indirect investment strategies, including direct equity investments and partnerships with external funds or investment vehicles, to diversify the firm’s portfolio and maximize returns.
Portfolio Management
o Oversee the performance and strategic direction of the existing investment portfolio, ensuring robust performance tracking, risk management, and alignment with the firm’s long-term objectives.
o Lead Investment Committee process, working with investment team to organize engaging meetings that result in clear and direct feedback on an ongoing basis.
o Oversee presentation of investment recommendations to the family for consideration.
Team Leadership
o Lead, mentor, and develop the existing investment team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture that aligns with the firm’s values and strategic goals.
Product Development:
o Continue to improve access to, and relationship with, top tier funds the family has identified as partners.
o Oversee process for identification and evaluation of new fund partnerships
o Work with the family and established partners to develop a strategy for offering access to funds and other family office investments.
o Expand the partnership between the family office and established partners to develop a strategy for sharing investment opportunities between the partners, their clients and the family office.
Alternative Fund Launch
o Explore and execute opportunities to launch an alternative fund portfolio, leveraging existing partnerships to provide access to new investment opportunities.
Family Office Integration:
o Work closely with the family to align investment strategies with the overall vision and mission of the family office, providing regular updates and strategic recommendations.
Market and Industry Engagement
o Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities, enhancing the firm’s visibility and reputation in the venture capital and investment community.
Requirements:
· Minimum 15 years’ experience in investment management, financial services, technology and/or consulting
· Strong understanding of venture capital and alternative investments
· Entrepreneurial ambitions with experience building and leading teams, companies, or strategies
· Demonstrated leadership experience
· Entrepreneurial experience building a company or business vertical preferred
· Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills
· Excellent communication and presentation abilities
· Bachelor’s Degree
· MBA and/or CFA preferred
