Position Details
The Sexual Assault Community Educator facilitates prevention education in schools and in the community in Rock Island and Mercer Counties and provides comprehensive trauma-informed and survivor-centered services to survivors of sexual assault. Under the leadership of the Survivor Services Supervisor, they collaborate with their team to meet the goals of providing quality survivor services, increasing survivor identification, increasing access to services, and increasing referrals. They will keep up to date on CDC guidelines for prevention education and will participate in ongoing adaptation and implementation of the agency's prevention program to these guidelines.
Position Specifics
- Position Hours: 1st shift; Monday-Friday with Occasional weekend outcall.
- The position will serve Rock Island, Mercer, and Henry counties
- The schedule is subject to change due to outcalls
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Keep up to date on CDC guidelines for prevention education and participate in webinars and discussions as applicable to maintain updates to knowledge.
- Ensure free, voluntary, non-discriminatory, accessible, and trauma-informed services for all clients.
- Immediate crisis counseling, safety planning, and information and referral.
- Leadership in the community in communicating the unique experiences and needs of survivors who are seeking medical care, criminal justice intervention, or other services.
- Maintain a working knowledge of hospital and police procedures as they relate to sexual abuse and trafficking survivors.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the child abuse laws and reporting procedures in Illinois
- On-call direct service on a pre-scheduled rotating basis with other staff members outside of normal office hours and as determined necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of survivors and provide services to survivors.
- Deliver presentations and/or training in the community and elementary, middle, and high schools on prevention strategies regarding sexual assault/abuse, sexual harassment, bullying, safe/unsafe touch, internet safety, date/acquaintance rape, sexual assault 101, risk reduction, date rape drugs, child sexual abuse (signs & symptoms, prevention of) and other topics upon request.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders.
- Train and educate on the bystander approach.
- Work with organizations on revising and/or developing policies to ensure alignment with promoting social norms and decreasing sexual violence.
- Utilize curriculum to facilitate conversations on preventing sexual violence in the community.
- Keep an open flexible schedule to meet the needs of the community, survivors, and the program.
- Provide appropriate information using the language or means of communication of the survivor when possible, including the ability to access the linguistically appropriate resources to meet non-English speaking clients' needs.
- Complete annual continuing education requirements governed by the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA).
- Participate and attend ICASA meetings around the state as required.

- Complete documentation for all funding sources related to the position.
- Input daily services into the data entry system by the noted deadline each week.
- Assess the effectiveness of services provided and make adjustments to service delivery as needed.
- Understand the issues related to the decision-making process; ability to analyze situations fully and accurately, and reach productive decisions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent survivor services experience.
- 3 years of experience working in the human services field with survivor services experience preferred.
- Bilingual and/or bicultural application preferred.
Must have current proof of car insurance, able to pass a driving background check, and have reliable transportation.
