Summary:
The Family Advocate works with families to establish and achieve family goals that improve each child’s school readiness. Efficiently and effectively implements quality family engagement activities involving parents and children from the diverse population served, in compliance with the Head Start/Early Head Start Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Framework. Communicates positively with children, families, and colleagues to meet the individual social, emotional, health, and educational needs of each family member.
Position Responsibilities:

Communicates positively with children, families, and colleagues to meet the individual social, emotional, health, and educational needs of each family member.
Position Responsibilities:
- Establishing a comfortable working relationship with assigned families beginning at the time of enrollment
- Working with families and center staff to help identify all the needs of assigned children and families, including the special needs of children.
- Linking families to services that are provided through other content service areas and by providers and agencies in the community
- Establishing working relationships with appropriate service providers/community agencies
- Acting as a liaison/advocate to assure providers/agencies are responsive to families, engage them in receiving services, and are of assistance in accomplishing the family’s goal(s)
- Supporting parents to organize and/or participate in parent/program activities including orientation, volunteering, social events, educational programs, parent committee meetings, and Policy Council meetings.
- Conducting home visits when needed, alone or with appropriate staff, to provide assistance in with crises, to follow up on progress, or to make contacts when other means of communication/contact are lacking.
- Supporting parents in scheduling and keeping appointments for all screenings, evaluations, and follow-up services.
- Communicating with teachers in a timely manner regarding children’s health concerns, the provision of special services, and family needs and interests.
- Attend parent meetings and parent events as directed by supervisor.
- Assist with processing enrollment applications and determines eligibility, adhering to HS/EHS selection criteria.
- Has the ability to work a varied schedule, including some evenings and weekends
- Performs other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or other related human services field
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a social services or early childhood position
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites, community resources, and home visits
Preferred
- Proficient in conversational Spanish
- 2 years of case management experience in a Child Development, Head Start, or Early Head Start organization
