Location: Seattle, WA.

Pay Range: $29.86-$31.88

We help people overcome employment barriers by teaching them the work and life skills they need to succeed in food-based jobs — and life.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, FareStart has provided millions of meals to organizations across the Seattle area that serve youth, adults, and families who are low-income or experiencing food insecurity.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As the Intake Case Manager, you are responsible for facilitating the application and enrollment process for FareStart’s Adult Programs. You will work with applicants to determine which program will best support the individual in achieving their goals toward personal stability and economic mobility. You will provide case management support to applicants, getting them connected to resources and services that will support them being able to actively engaging in training. These resources can include referrals to housing, behavioral health providers, childcare, basic food benefits, and others in the community. This position works collaboratively with internal and external partners including other FareStart Case Managers, other internal stakeholders, and program referral and resource partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct intake interviews to gain insight into an applicant’s background and life experiences to
  • understand where the applicant may need support and outside resources, and help the applicant
  • identify if the program will support their individual goals toward stability and economic mobility.
  • Use a person-centered, trauma-informed approach when working with applicants.
  • Facilitate and coordinate applicant’s access to resources for housing, behavioral and physical health,
  • childcare, and other resources as needed for an individual to be able to participate in a program.
  • Collaborate with supervisors when transferring individuals to other case managers for support while
  • in the program.
  • Work with mental health, SUD, and physical health providers for coordination of care and verification
  • of support service status for applicants.
  • Input detailed and organized intake records and comprehensive notes in a timely manner to meet
  • organizational and funder requirements.
  • Communicate with case management staff on accepted applicant’s experience, goals, barriers, and
  • other relevant information prior to their start in the program.
  • Work closely with referral partners to support an individual enrolling in a program and to
  • understand services and support an applicant may already be receiving.
  • Manage enrollment partnership with the Department of Corrections to support individuals enrolling
  • directly upon release from incarceration.
  • Support program information sessions for individuals to learn about programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social or human services, and two (2) or more years of experience working with individuals with barriers to employment, such as substance use disorder, criminal history, mental health challenges, domestic violence, or inconsistent work history; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) or more years of experience with case management.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA , and gender backgrounds.
  • Proficient and experienced in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Ability to work with customized databases and technology and to conduct internet research.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing case notes and tracking client progress.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of community resources and agencies available to support those experiencing homelessness and other challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner. Ability to be flexible and adaptable and change plans as needed.
  • Excellent calendaring skills to support the interview process and planning for applicants released from incarceration.
  • Ability to display sensitivity, tact, and responsiveness in various situations and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to work with diverse audiences racially, ethnically, socioeconomically, LGBTQIA , and gender diverse communities.
  • Ability to listen patiently and attentively, ability to express self clearly and effectively, and the ability to adapt communication-based on audience and purpose with inclusivity.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships across external partners including
  • Department of Corrections, Parole Officers, housing, and other resource partnerships.
  • Ability to remain calm and understand how to redirect conversations and recognize when there are behavioral health challenges that may require additional support.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with motivational interviewing.
  • Experience in employment and/or workforce development program.
