ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
FareStart is a nonprofit organization in Seattle, Washington that transforms lives, disrupts poverty and nourishes communities through food, life skills and job training. We help people overcome employment barriers by teaching them work and life skills they need to succeed in the food-based jobs — and in life.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, FareStart has provided millions of meals to organizations across the Seattle area that serve youth, adults and families who are low income or experiencing food insecurity.
ABOUT THE POSITION
As the Prep Cook, you will work in kitchen food preparation and assembly as well as packing line assembly as needed. Flexibility in daily duties is necessary as you will be asked.
Our Galaxy kitchen is located in Interbay and focuses on the lunch aspect of FareStart’s hunger relief mission. We have the privilege of producing ready-to-eat meals that are provided to the greater Seattle area’s vulnerable communities. Our responsibilities range from special diet needs, sandwich filling and salad production to house-made dressings and testing new menu ideas. We are currently looking for a team member that can aid in the scratch cooking process to improve the quality of meals served to our clientele.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Label and stock ingredients so they are organized and accessible
- Build and wrap sandwiches, entrees, prep ingredients for meals
- Scoop and bowl individual meals
- Maintain clean and orderly workstation
- Stamping lunch sacks with Farestart logo
- Building Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner cold meal to-go bags
- Committed to Attendance and written schedule, weekend availability required
- Maintain positive and respectful demeanor with a “can do” attitude.
- Food preparation in a fast paced and productive kitchen
- Adherence to safety and health standards, including COVID Social Distancing protocols
- Cleaning station and area upon completion
- Daily deep cleaning and kitchen organization
REQUIREMENTS
- 2 year of front or back of the house restaurant experience
- A passion for excellence through teamwork, positive change, and communication
