We are seeking the ideal fit to join our team as the Farm Service Elevator General Manager!
We’re looking for someone with exceptional leadership skills, and an ability to communicate to a variety of stakeholders, to engage our outstanding team towards delivery of top-quality, specific feed formulations to customers utilizing state-of-the-art production technology.
Farm Service Elevator produces feed for growers in the Willmar area. It currently processes 6 million bushels of corn a year.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leadership and Direction:
- Provides leadership, coaching and development to Farm Service Elevator employees.
- Coordinates activities including but not limited to: ingredient sourcing/ordering including bulk commodities such as corn and soybean meal, receiving/storing ingredients in various forms and locations.
- Collaborates with Sales, Logistics and Nutrition functions on ingredient sourcing, developing long range production flows, and customer deliveries.
- Develops and maintains corn hedging strategies, managing the FSE Commodity Merchandiser working together to monitor future crop conditions and forecast purchasing requirements.
Planning and Organizing:
- Assures joint ownership of goals and everyday work activities, able to define clear roles and responsibilities of team members, empowers people to get the job done.
- Breaks work down into logical steps, shares complete and accurate information with others, keeps the team informed on progress.
- Leads the design, promotion and delivery of continuous improvement programs. Listens attentively, and seeks solutions acceptable to all. Communicates clearly and messages have the desired effect.
- Ensures that appropriate facilities and strategies are in place to mitigate risks related to feed quality.
- Upholds a safe, clean and effective work environment for all employees. Complies with all required regulatory controls. Directs housekeeping duties and maintains effective maintenance program.
- Follows through on all parts of the job being completed in full, including paperwork. Keeps well-organized files, systems and tools.
- Applies policies and business practices correctly, sets expectations, creates accountability and recognizes employee compliance to established company values, policies and practices.
Decision Making and Financial Management:
- Develops annual operating plans and budgets for the feed mill operation in conjunction with Controller and the Senior Leadership Team, including providing financial data analysis of the actual financial performance of Farm Service Elevator. Prudently manages resources within the budget.
- Identifies and considers all available alternatives, can describe the factors that were considered in making decisions, and seeks other people’s input and advice. Understands the impact of decisions on employees, customers, and other business units.
- Takes appropriate risks to improve performance or reach a challenging goal, anticipates roadblocks, willing to make decisions in difficult or ambiguous situations. Presents ideas effectively in formal and informal situations.
Developing and Retaining Talent:
- Drives a culture of engagement at Farm Service Elevator by consistently modeling desired behaviors and living company values.
- Knows strengths and weaknesses of team members, identifies development needs and provides assignments to strengthen abilities. Provides meaningful feedback and coaching discussions towards continued growth.
- Reviews team successes and failures, makes sure needs of the team are met and rewards great performance.
- Ensures organizational structure can support current and future business and staffing needs. Partners with Human Resources to ensure the right people are engaged in the right roles at the right times to reach organization’s goals.
- Actively works to attract, train, engage and retain a high-performing team.
The ideal candidate will have the following educational and experience background:
- 7 years of feed mill, grain elevator or managerial experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administrations, economics or in an Agricultural related field.
- Entrepreneurial orientation and strong business acumen
- Proven track record for leading and influencing others to meet challenging goals
- Ability to quickly assess, prioritize, delegate and manage cross-functional departments
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively with variety of stakeholders to ensure collaborative approach on resolving problems
- Must be able to work varying shifts, holidays and weekends as needed.
