IPM Specialist

Position Summary

Work with VP of Cultivation and Director of Horticulture to ensure that the facility’s preventative and curative IPM programs are executed.

Job Duties/Essential Functions

Scheduling

§ Plan spray schedule and beneficial insect application schedule around the facility’s Vegetative and Flowering cycles.

§ Schedule purchasing calendar for beneficial insects

§ Coordinate IPM regimen with workflow of the cultivation team including personnel, equipment, materials, training, monitoring, and problem solving.

§ Conduct a weekly inventory of pest control agents and scouting supplies, and order according to facility par levels.

Scouting and Pest Identification

§ Maintain a scouting system in which problems are discovered and diagnosed early enough to implement effective control prior to shipping and prior to economic damage. Anticipate potential crises for the purpose of avoiding crop loss or lack of availability

§ Scout building common areas and exterior property for pests and secondary harbors for pests

Pest Management

§ Ensure preventative and curative sprays are properly mixed and applied

§ Ensure predators and biological controls are deployed promptly and effectively

Compliance and Safety

§ Coordinate with VP of Compliance to maintain compliance of all state and federal Pest Management regulations and state mandated MMJ pesticide regulations.

§ Ensure all pesticide applications are documented properly according to all state and federal regulations.

§ Ensure that all SDS (Safety Data Sheets) are up to date, properly organized, and made accessible.

§ Occasionally assist regulators in answering questions pertaining to IPM.

§ Adhere to state and federal requirements for private pesticide applicators, including, but not limited to: obtaining a State Private Pesticide applicators license obtaining proper certification to apply RUP’s, completing all required continuing education courses, state mandated reporting.

§ Ensure company compliance with all Worker Protection Standards.

§ Conduct safety and technique training to all employees to minimize risk of injury/exposure and maximize effectiveness. Actively participate as a permanent member of the Safety Committee.

Purchasing and Budgeting

§ Conduct a weekly inventory of pest control agents, scouting supplies, and PPE. Order according to facility par levels.

§ Work with VP of Cultivation and Director of Horticulture to plan and annual budget for supplies. Ensure that costs are tracked, and operations stay within established financial parameters. Track costs by department and report reasons for deviations from established budget, on a monthly basis.

Equipment

§ Maintain all equipment in a manner which results in regular preventive maintenance and so that equipment is operating properly prior to each use.

§ Ensure all pesticide application equipment is maintained according to manufacturer's recommendations.

§ Ensure proper PPE is available for all pesticides and fungicides

§ Ensure all PPE is in good working condition, is maintained according to all manufacturer recommendations, and is safe for all employees to use.

Employee training and education

§ Train Cultivation team members in proper techniques for spray application and biological control deployment

§ Develop and maintain a catalog reference guide/history of accurately diagnosed crop problems (with pictures) that is easily accessible to all so that anyone can use it to diagnose any problems found in the crops.

§ Identify Pest Management challenges. Report the challenge and propose a solution to the VP of Cultivation and Director of Horticulture promptly. Implement solutions that are agreed upon.

§ Administer WPS training to all new employees.

Essential Job Functions:

Experience with identifying pests and diseases as well as treatment methods of medical/recreation cannabis, ornamental crops, vegetable crops, or cut flower crops

Experience with pesticide use and biological controls, specifically regarding modes of action and techniques of application.

Private Pesticide Applicator license, equivalent license, or knowledge to obtain.

Job requires operating equipment and sustaining moderate levels of physical exertion for long periods of time.

Job requires extended use of Tyvek suits

Employee may be exposed to temperatures that can be at or 10-20 degrees above outside temperature. Employee may be exposed to temperatures that can be at or slightly above freezing for periods of time.

Job requires ability to pass a physical exam of respiratory health (required for respirator use).

Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.

Must pass respirator “fit” test.

Employee will be exposed to the sun and/or high intensity lights.

Employee will work in a wet environment where clothes and footwear can become saturated.

Rolling, unrolling irrigation hoses and using high pressure hoses.

Non-Essential Functions

Effectively communicate with all fellow employees. Communicate all relevant job-related information as needed to ensure that any scheduling of treatments is coordinated among departments. Report problems or challenges without delay.

Establish priorities, work independently, and seek out the resources necessary accomplish objectives with minimal supervision.

Collaborate as a team member in small and large groups; advances ideas concerning company-wide concerns (e.g., safety, sales, processes, facilities).

Ensure that all applications are completed in accordance with the label/directions, achieving the desired result. Obtain proper supplies, train, coach and monitor as needed.

Communicate effectively both in formal publication or presentation, and internally.

Practiced in the use of computers and applications including Word, PowerPoint, & Excel. Quickly learn and adapt to new computer systems, company specific computer programs and other new technology.

Effectively trouble shoot and repair equipment after training.

Experience, skills, education & licenses/certifications

Required:

2 Hour Medical Cannabis Course required by the State of Pennsylvania completed during orientation.

Completed Orientation Training which include:

  • Proper Handling of Cannabis
  • Proper Recordkeeping
  • Anti-diversion Training, Including Zero Tolerance Policy
  • Security Procedures
  • Medical Emergency Response
  • Fire Response
  • Chemical Spill Response
  • Armed Robbery/Burglary Response
  • Criminal Incident Response and Reporting
  • Open Door Policy
  • HIPAA Training

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Ability to pass criminal background check.

Ability to pass drug screening.

Must be current on annual safety training within 30 days of hire.

PA Private Pesticide Applicator certification to be completed within 90 days of hire.

Recommended:

Experience in any relevant trades, including horticulture, food handling, etc.

Management will review the Job Analysis for this position prior to a job offer.

As a condition of employment, FarmaceuticalRX requires all incoming candidates to be fully vaccinated with the COVID vaccine barring any medical or religious exemption.
