What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Associate - Tax Director position at FCP?
FCP is seeking a Senior Associate to join its accounting and finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected real estate private equity firm with a strong track record. This is a newly created position responsible for the Company’s tax compliance, tax planning and accounting for income taxes for FCP and the private equity real estate funds managed by FCP. This position reports directly to the SVP-Tax. The individual hired will work with FCP’s internal and external stakeholders including FCP’s finance team, investment professionals, external legal counsel, multiple accounting firms, investors, and joint venture partners. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move into a Tax Director role and manage all aspects of a growing real estate private equity firm with institutional investors.
FCP is a leading real estate investment company that has invested in or financed more than $12.5 billion in assets since its founding in 1999. FCP currently has six closed-end funds and one open-ended fund under management.
FCP is considering candidates from New York and Washington, DC. This is a hybrid role with employee required to work from either the Hudson Yards NYC office space or headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD several days a week. Occasional travel will be required between the locations.
YOUR IMPACT:
- Responsible for all federal, state, and international tax compliance for FCP’s management company and the private equity funds managed by FCP. Oversee and coordinate the execution of the annual tax compliance process consisting of over 500 tax filings prepared by external accounting firms.
- Maintain tax projections for all FCP managed private equity funds and FCP’s partners.
- Prepare and project quarterly and annual REIT compliance testing.
- Review REIT property services and monitor REIT property service questionnaires.
- Resolve any audits or correspondence from federal and state tax agencies.
- Manage state and local business tax filings, annual reports, pass-through entity tax, and non-resident withholding tax calculations.
- Liaise with senior management on tax issues and tax planning opportunities;
- Assist the SVP-Tax with cash management, NonUS withholding, estimated tax payments, tax distributions, and structuring new investments/Funds in a tax-efficient manner while meeting the various LP, Fund and REIT requirements;
- Underwrite projected after-tax returns for international LPs.
- Monitor various tax and side letter related compliance tests.
- Communicate with prospective and current Fund investors to answer tax questions, clarify tax reporting, and provide special-purpose reports for institutional investors;
- Assist in the annual financial statement audits of FCP’s private equity real estate funds, including, but not limited to, annual tax provision calculations.
- Maintain FCP’s legal entity database and oversee creation of all new legal entities.
- Work closely with external law firms to draft fund, joint venture, and management company related legal agreements.
- Help develop new technology and automate processes to streamline tasks and reduce risk.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Accounting;
- CPA;
- 5-10 years of public/private accounting experience, including:
- Real Estate Private Equity Fund (Fund, REIT, and Blocker) tax reporting
- Real Estate Investment Trust tax compliance and reporting
- Tax research, planning, and drafting memos
- Income Tax Provisions
- Ability to work with/lead a team with limited supervision to drive processes to completion.
- Ability to communicate and network with executives, investors, law firms, accounting firms, and peers in the industry.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and Financial Accounting involving real estate and investment fund accounting.
- Experience with Investran, Python, and process automation are preferred.
