Cafe Manager
Full-Time Position
Reports to: Owner

JOB OVERVIEW
The Cafe Manager will organize daily operations and motivate our staff to provide excellent customer service, provide warm hospitality, and promote cultural engagement. Cafe Manager’s responsibilities include scheduling shifts for Baristas, monitoring daily expenses and revenues, and ordering supplies as needed. To be successful in this role the candidate should have work experience with various roles in coffee shops and/or bars. Also, the candidate should be available to work during opening hours, including weekends and holidays. Ultimately, the candidate will help increase profitability and sustainability, boost guest engagement, and continue to maintain overall cafe enjoyment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are current programs that the Cafe Manager will coordinate:
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the cafe.
  • Hire and onboard new staff and baristas.
  • Train employees on drink preparation, food prep and proper use of equipment.
  • Train employees in exceptional customer service to maximize overall guest experience.
  • Manage coffee/tea/juices as well as food inventory.
  • Coordinate with vendors and order supplies as needed.
  • Maintain updated records of daily, weekly, and monthly revenues and expenses.
  • Coordinate new menu items based on seasonality and customer preference.
  • Advise staff on best ways to resolve issues with guests and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ensure all shifts are scheduled and covered by staff, including preparations and training for special events.
  • Ensure all cafe/bar areas are clean and tidy and meet Department of Health Requirements.
  • Nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty and boost reputation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE
Various work hours will be scheduled on an ongoing basis. Early mornings, weekends, and occasional evenings will be required for this job.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Cafe and Coffee Shop experience required, management preferred.
  • Bar/Restaurant/Retail experience preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with google suite, social media applications, and emerging media.
  • Knowledge in Square, WhenIwork (preferred, but not required).

Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Hands-on experience with coffee machines.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Positive attitude is a must regardless of the situation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Standing, walking, bending, some climbing, frequent use of hands, stooping and lifting is needed.

The Cafe Manager will also participate in events that further the organization as a whole, particularly surrounding marketing, fundraising, and critical events. The Cafe Manager will also be utilized to relieve pressure amongst staff, an example being serving as “Manager on Duty” for events.

The Cafe Manager is responsible for creating and maintaining a successful work environment for our Teams. Some of time is spent recruiting, hiring, new team members & troubleshooting day-to-day facilities and technology issues. The Manager will work with our teams in building sales programs to leverage business opportunities and will create a positive atmosphere of pride. This individual will be proficient in making logical and timely decisions and instill organization into the cafe(s)

  • Build & Implement Sales Programs.
  • Lead Guest Service Initiatives.
  • Communicates Guest feedback and engage the team in action plans to resolve issues.
  • Treats all team members fairly and with respect.
  • Install & Maintain Organizational Systems & Inventory Best Practices.
  • Install & Maintain Cash Management Systems & Best Practices.
  • Control Food Cost
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
