Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Perform site visits, field research, site monitoring, and construction observation (such as wetland determinations/delineations, species and habitat surveys, cultural surveys, hazardous materials reviews, etc.)
- Support environmental (natural resources) compliance, permitting, consulting, studies, and/or mitigation compliance monitoring; particularly as they relate to NEPA.
- Assist with Clean Water Act Section 404 permitting with specific experience interacting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Endangered Species Act Section 7 and 10 consulting/permitting); other agency coordination as necessary.
- Identify appropriate site conditions (multi-disciplinary) for habitat restoration, reclamation of disturbed sites, and urbanized areas.
- Support NEPA/environmental studies, public engagement, and permitting for the transportation industry; written technical reports and supporting documentation, data collection / analysis, and mapping.
- Clear communication using omni-channel resources (email, Microsoft Teams, telephone, and text) to coordinate with a multidisciplinary teams and across multiple offices.
Salary Range: $63,000-$70,000.00
Requirements
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Biological Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, Geography, Natural Science, Natural Resources, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or a closely related field.
- Environmental field work experience. Must be willing to work in the field in the extreme heat/cold of the Great Plains (excluding severe weather/warning conditions) and overnight travel.
- Strong computer skills (especially Microsoft Office Suite and ArcGIS Pro).
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Team building and collaboration.
The ideal candidate would have one or more of the following specialty skills or qualifications:
- Vegetation identification
- Soil identification/soil science
- Knowledge of hydrology/geomorphology
- Hazardous materials reviews / Phase I and II environmental site assessments
- Basic coding (Python)
- Working knowledge of NEPA and other environmental regulations (state/federal)
