The Director, Corporate Safety will be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for Fender’s global health & safety programs and delivering best in class solutions that drive a safety culture based on accountability. You will be responsible for the continuous development of Safety Policies and Procedures as well as effective implementation of these policies. You are ultimately responsible for having an effective workplace safety program and culture in place. This position directs the resources and activities of the organization to support the Safety programs and initiatives by providing advice and guidance to company management and senior management. This role will be based in Corona, CA.

About the Job:

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve enterprise-wide health & safety strategy and programs consistent with industry best practices, defining short- and long-term objectives and tactical plans to reach goals
  • Maintain safety standards and initiatives that improve performance, reduce risk, mitigate incident frequency and severity, and meet regulatory/compliance requirements
  • Assess and drive implementation of optimal health & safety organizational structure, tools, training, programs, governance, and accountability models
  • Ensure appropriate health & safety related internal controls, oversight, governance, and measurement systems are in place to meet compliance requirements across the business
  • Leads efforts of global taskforce, comprised of representatives responsible for health & safety at the coalition, brand, and facility levels
  • Provide technical expertise and thought leadership, create synergies and leverage knowledge, personnel, best practices, and resources across the organization. Engage with leadership and stakeholders across global operations to drive program effectiveness
  • Further the implementation of safety programs for all new acquisitions, as well as maintain performance within those facilities that have established programs
  • Lead and support the facility-based business continuity process, including the development, maintenance, and testing of plans across the organization. Align and integrate the process with global business resiliency efforts
  • Contributes written submissions or otherwise supports Safety communications through newsletters, social media, new employee orientation sessions, and similar
  • Administers the company’s Worker’s Compensation Program effectively. This includes a focus on accident prevention, cost reduction, effective case management, return-to-work programs, and similar relative to work related illness and injuries
  • Coordinate effectively with Human Resources on leave administration and the corrective action process relative to work related illnesses and injuries
  • Develops and maintains an aggressive accident investigation program. This includes thorough investigation of all accidents, identification of root causes, developing effective programs to prevent recurrence, and company-wide communication and education on same
  • Conduct (or coordinate) on-site Safety reviews and audits at all locations to ensure compliance with safe working operations as specified and required by OSHA and company policy and procedure
  • Responsible for a thorough analysis of accident trends and for the development and implementation of strategies to effectively resolve actual or perceived Safety issues
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regularly scheduled Safety meetings, facility inspections, and emergency drills at all locations
  • Provides regular written and/or oral reports to senior leadership on the Safety program’s successes and challenges
  • Ensures compliance with all environmental, health, and Safety standards promulgated by local, state, and federal agencies
  • Responsible for overseeing the security program and systems at all company headquarters

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in risk management, industrial Safety and health, Safety engineering, Safety management, or closely related field
  • Bilingual fluency in verbal and written English and Spanish is required
  • Prefer 10 years of progressive experience with 7 years of Safety management
  • Experience on Turnarounds or Cultural Transformations preferred
  • Experience in the interpretation and enactment of Safety standards in OSHA and Workers’ Compensation regulations
  • Experience implementing STOP Safety Program
  • Experience owning behavioral cultural change through floor and office observation and reporting
  • Familiarity with safety laws and health regulations in Mexico
  • Preference given to those with experience with Safety Management Systems
  • Preference given to those with Professional Certifications (ASP – Associate Safety Professional / CSP – Certified Safety Professional)
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, implement, and manage best practice health & safety programs
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001/14001/18001 implementation and program sustainability
  • Proven leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated ability to both work collaboratively and influence those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Highly effective presentation and training delivery skills
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of safety rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish credibility and lead by influence across all levels of the organization, from senior leadership to individual contributors
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate between conflicting priorities and issues to identify underlying causes
  • Up to 50% travel expected to support business needs, primarily to coalition, brand, and facility locations
