What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Teacher Position position at Fenwick High School?
Job Purpose:
Faculty at Fenwick High School provide instruction and guidance to their students, in support of Fenwick’s mission to educate and empower students to lead, achieve, and serve. The teacher is expected to collaborate with colleagues in their instructional practice, and to seek continuous professional growth. They should also get involved in the community by working with students outside of the classroom through sports and activities. The teacher supports students’ success by communicating effectively with parents and guardians, including by keeping Schoology updated, corresponding via email, and attending Parent/Teacher Conferences and other school events as required.
Full-time Mathematics and Computer Science faculty are typically expected to teach (5) classes and cover (1) supervision period daily throughout the school year and are classified as 10 - month employees in the Fenwick Employee Handbook.
Job Function:
The teacher is to be prepared on a daily basis for a full period of instruction for each of his/her courses.
The teacher is to grade and return all tests, quizzes and homework in a timely manner.
The teacher is to update Schoology by 8:00 on Wednesday.
Smaller assignments should be graded and returned within no more than one week, and larger assignments should be graded and returned within no more than two weeks.
The teacher is to provide consistent and fair assessments on a regular basis. These assessments are to be based on the material from classroom instruction and readings. Additionally, tests are to only be given on the assigned test days.
As the teacher of record, the teacher is to be on time to all of his/her classes, he/she may not leave his/her students unattended and must take accurate attendance at the start of the period.
The teacher must enforce school policies as outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook and adhere to all safety and evacuation procedures.
The teacher is expected to adhere to all policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
The teacher is to attend, and be on time for all required meetings, in-service and professional development days, Masses, Honors Convocation, Graduation and school assemblies.
The teacher is to assist the administration in supervising students at extracurricular events at least once during the school year. This does not include events which the teacher has been assigned and receives compensation for.
The teacher is to attend at least one Open House per year and assist the admissions effort as needed.
Pursue ongoing professional growth, including through attendance at workshops/seminars to enhance classroom performance, and through pursuit of a Master’s degree, if not yet held, in the teacher’s academic discipline, education, or a related field as approved by the Principal.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in the subject area, education, or a related field. (Master’s degree preferred.)
Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) preferred
High School teaching experience is preferred.
Ability to use technology in instruction and for student learning
Familiarity with 1:1 iPad use in the classroom a plus
