Fermilab’s ESH Radiation Physics Engineering group is seeking an Electronics Technician II. Under general supervision, the selected candidate we will provide moderately complex hands-on electromechanical technical support. Depending on area of assignment, the selected candidate would be required to calibrate, repair and modify assigned radiation monitoring equipment with a high level of reliability and meet compliance deadlines. You Will: Follow calibration procedures to ensure accuracy and traceability. Test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify instrumentation including DC high voltage, high impedance, digital signal, digital logic, and analog circuitry to component level. Assist in new instrumentation planning, design, prototyping, testing and implementation. Assist in construction, testing and assembly of experimental and support equipment. Enter relevant work information into a database. Maintain inventories of small parts, supplies, materials and equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. Abide by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, Laboratory policies, procedures and practices pertinent to this position. We Are Looking For: HS degree or equivalent, or technical certificate in the electronics field. 3 years of extensive related experience in electronics or related field. Strong electromechanical aptitude & troubleshooting skills. Proficiency with analog and digital component technologies. Ability to read and comprehend circuit schematics and PCB assembly drawing. Ability to solder and desolder through-hole and surface mount components. Ability to assemble electronics circuits based on schematics, layout, or instructions. Ability to follow wiring diagrams and mechanical assembly instructions. Experience with common electronics test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, pulsers). Familiarity with the safe use of hand-held power and hand tools. Experienced with Windows PC environment, and MS Office suite applications. Ability to follow written test procedures and/or verbal instructions. Ability to clearly document instrument repair and modifications into a database. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment given general or detailed verbal/written instructions. Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 lbs Ability to legally operate cars and light trucks.
