We conduct this research on a 6,800-acre prairie, 35 miles outside Chicago, a treasure that has been designated a National Environmental Research Park. This position is not open for relocation. Under general supervision and based on journeyman-level expertise, general experience, and/or academic study, provides moderately complex technical support for an area of assignment, typically an experimental or support group. Depending on the area of assignment, fabricates, sets-up, calibrates, operates, tests repair and modifies a variety of moderately complex electrical-electric and/or performs ES&H duties including environmental surveys, waste disposal, and radiological surveys. You Will: Fabricates, assembles, installs, and removes a variety of mechanical and/or electrical parts, subassemblies, controls, and devices for Laboratory projects/equipment in the area of assignment, based on drawings, diagrams, schematics, and as instructed. Assists in construction, calibration, and assembly of experimental and support equipment for the area of assignment. Prepares and tests equipment for operation. Generates, or assists in generating Hazard Analyses for work requiring such. Writes procedures for finished work. Enters relevant work information into a database and/or personal logbook. Produces reports as assigned. Prepares and compiles technical data and safety records for equipment in area of assignment. Performs preventative and standard maintenance of equipment, troubleshooting of problems, and repairs as needed. Responds to operational and emergency requirements of the area. Conducts periodic safety inspections of area of assignment. Assists with the identification, packaging, control, and disposal of chemical and radioactive waste. Procures and maintains inventories of small parts, supplies, materials, and equipment for area of assignment. Assists in the implementation of design of equipment and systems for area of assignment. Drives quality in all job aspects. Assists and may direct the work of lower-level technicians. May act as shift supervisor for assigned area/project. Performs other duties as assigned. Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, Laboratory policies, procedures, and practices pertinent to this position. Contribute effectively within a diverse workforce and uphold Fermilab’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion We Are Looking For: High School Diploma (or technical certificate or equivalent) plus 4 years general experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of electrical, mechanical, information technology and/or ES&H technology concepts, practices, and procedures May be required to legally operate a government vehicle. Knowledge for Cameras: Strong knowledge of camera installation procedures, including mounting, wiring, and configuring cameras in both indoor and outdoor environments. Proficiency in upgrading firmware for cameras and related devices, including knowledge of firmware versioning, compatibility, and troubleshooting. Familiarity with various types of cameras, including IP cameras, analog cameras, dome cameras, and bullet cameras, as well as knowledge of different camera brands and models. Understanding of network protocols and connectivity, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and VLANs, as well as experience with configuring network settings for cameras and other devices. Knowledge of power requirements for cameras, including experience with calculating power needs, selecting appropriate power supplies, and wiring power to cameras. Familiarity with troubleshooting camera issues, including connectivity problems, image quality issues, and firmware-related issues, and experience with diagnosing and resolving these issues. Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and vendors, and the ability to document installation and configuration procedures clearly and accurately. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively. Physical ability to install cameras in various locations and environments, including the ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and lift heavy equipment. For Locks: Expertise in installing a wide variety of locks, including deadbolts, padlocks, keyless entry systems, and high-security locks, and knowledge of how to choose the right type of lock for different applications. Proficiency in making keys, including duplicating keys, cutting keys by code, and creating master key systems, as well as knowledge of different types of key blanks and key machines. Experience in repairing locks, including diagnosing and fixing problems with lock mechanisms, cylinders, and keyways, and the ability to replace damaged parts as needed. Knowledge of lock hardware and components, including familiarity with different types of lock cylinders, pins, springs, and other parts, as well as understanding of lock finishes and aesthetics. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, including knowledge of building codes, fire codes, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements related to locks and hardware. Understanding of security best practices, including knowledge of different types of attacks against locks and how to prevent them, as well as experience with security audits and risk assessments. Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and vendors, and the ability to document installation and repair procedures clearly and accurately. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively. Physical ability to install locks in various locations and environments, including the ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and lift heavy equipment.
