POSITION PURPOSE: The General Maintenance – Maintenance Department performs a variety of service functions. This would include but is not limited to: general carpentry, plumbing, lubrication, and housekeeping throughout the plant; maintaining and repairing and various equipment building maintenance items. Assists in keeping the plant in operating condition through preventative and reactive maintenance.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor
JOB DUTIES:
1. Performs general plumbing and pipe fitting associated with plumbing, including maintaining all water delivery functions in the plant;
2. Analyzes diagnoses and performs building repairs. Performs general clean-up and maintenance throughout the plant;
3. Operates a variety of equipment, including tow motors, tractors, overhead hoists, hand carts as necessary to perform the maintenance function;
4. Assist Machine Repair personnel in disassembling, repairing and reassembling equipment/machinery;
5. Repairs and maintains pumps;
6. Repairs and maintains hydraulics;
7. Performs carpentry and fabrication. Builds a variety of items. Makes repairs to building;
8. Lubricates all equipment and machinery. Helps maintain the oil storage area in proper condition;
9. Advises and communicates regarding potentially dangerous maintenance problems;
10. Follows and ensures all lockout/tag-out procedures related to electrical, equipment, machines and other forms of energy are followed;
11. Communicates potential maintenance problems and dangers;
12. Performs routine maintenance/cleaning duties and moves materials as necessary;
13. Performs other duties as assigned and directed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Vocational Education or higher in the machine repair field.
Knowledge An ability to read and write. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions and have a thorough understanding of maintenance procedures. A working knowledge of plastic injection machinery/equipment.
Experience: Must be a previously trained or at least one year in general maintenance. The equivalent in education such as journeyman in at least one of the maintenance or similar disciplines.
Responsibilities: Must be able to understand and function in a variety of maintenance areas. Must have a good working understanding of carpentry and plumbing. Must possess figure aptitude and arithmetic skills; an ability to work accurately with measuring devices; a willingness to work overtime, abnormal hours and weekends as necessary; must have a detailed knowledge of lubrication points and safe practices on equipment/machinery. Must know how to work a wide variety hand tools.
Independent Judgment Occasional. Uses when troubleshooting, working on equipment, diagnosing problems, and suggested solutions. Works with close supervision.
Quality Follows regulatory, company, and departmental procedures implicitly. In the execution of the job function the General Service - Maintenance must focus on the quality aspect of all maintenance activities. Each assigned activity has at least an indirect if not direct impact on the profitability of the company. Doing the fob right the first time and in a timely manner is important to meeting management expectations. The General Service – Maintenance is involved with the quality of the maintenance department. It should always be a goal to achieve zero defects on each job. Material loss as well as time loss must be minimized at all times. Quality is the number one priority.
PHYSICAL EXERTION:
Routinely requires working in close quarters, beneath machines and equipment and in uncomfortable positions. Requires climbing and working with heights on occasion. Constant movements of wrists and shoulders, legs, waist and back; uses hand – eye coordination on a regular basis, uses a high degree of precision and attention to prevent injury to self and others, has to work with and around heat and dusts; is constantly exposed to danger from high voltage electricity.
TOOLS:
Wire crimpers, knife(s), screw drivers, hammer, wrenches, pry bars, voltage meters and regulators, calibrators, electrical/electronic testing devices, conduits, wiring, pipes, carpentry tools, pencils, tow motors, rulers, measuring devices, saws, vacuums, cover plates, locks, tags, lift truck platforms, ladders, paper, forms, overhead cranes and hoists, light bulbs, florescent lights, calculators, eye protection. Must have own hand tools.
ATTENDANCE:
Must be in attendance on a regular, full time basis and conform to all Company Attendance Policies. Due to the limited numbers in this classification, attendance is of the utmost importance. Must be willing and available to work other shifts and overtime (including weekends) as necessary/required.
