Job Summary The Systems Engineer I plans, schedules, and coordinates activities designed to support technology applications and services through research and understanding of applicable business and technology requirements. The Systems Engineer I installs new software and completes infrastructure upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, monitors system performance and resolves related problems. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains data storage and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Specific skills and technical responsibilities pertaining to this role include: Microsoft System Center Administration (SCCM), enterprise software management and deployment, report generation, network printing management, endpoint security, vSphere/VMware/Horizon virtual labs management, AppsAnywhere/Cloudpaging Administration, user data management, Deep Freeze Administration, and Apple/JAMF Administration. Identifies potential modifications to applications to solve complex problems. Troubleshoots systems and makes corrections as needed. Job Description Typical duties include but are not limited to: Assists in design, development, support, and maintenance of systems infrastructure. Installs new software and infrastructure upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, monitors system performance, and resolves escalated problems. Administers application security and configurations. Coordinates application testing with functional areas. Conducts application system security audits. Performs data backups and recoveries. Monitors and maintains continuity with system licensing and maintenance agreements. Serves as an escalation point for IT User Support Specialist. Tracks problems in the work order system. Maintains records, forms, and system related installation documentation. Develops new techniques and procedures to enhance university systems infrastructure. Reviews processes, evaluates results, recommends new processes, and promotes best practices. Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. Additional Job Description Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or related field. One year of professional full-time related experience. Experience with enterprise systems and applications and current versions of Windows Server/Linux or other enterprise services. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered. Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook). Preferred Qualifications: Experience with server system products involving a variety of software and hardware implementations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of basic networking concepts (e.g. Systems, Protocols, Directory Services). Knowledge and proficiency with relevant business systems, operating systems, and servers. Knowledge of and ability to administer local and cloud based applications (SaaS) such as Azure/AWS. Skill in project management of small initiatives, and troubleshooting. Skill in managing servers and storage hardware. Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups. Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved. Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willingness to contribute to a team effort. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. Ability to provide professional customer service. Salary: $47,200 to negotiable.
