SUMMARY:
Wakefield Thermal is seeking an experienced, driven, and well-rounded manufacturing leader to manage and oversee our CNC machining department. The main responsibility of this role is to support the delivery of quality products to our valued customers, on time – and safely. This leader will be expected to embrace our winning culture of achievement, growth, and customer satisfaction. This is a key role within our operations leadership group that reports directly to the Operations Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Embrace a work safe culture in all day-to-day actions and activities. Leads by example in safety first.
- Lead and directly supervise CNC production machinists and operators with a laser focus on safety, quality, and schedule attainment and efficiency to support on time delivery metrics.
- Work alongside other key stakeholders to maximize business results, improve operations and achieve key operations metrics.
- Utilize machining metrics and other key data points to determine manpower requirements, and support scheduling decisions as well as resolve capacity issues.
- Partner with Master Scheduler & materials group to maintain adequate material flow and to optimize machining capacity hours.
- Champions a continuous improvement culture and coaches and mentors’ others towards this mindset.
- Promotes teamwork atmosphere and encourages employee learning and development by leveraging both internal and external resources.
- Drives 5S workplace standards and continuously works towards creating a world class facility in areas such as safety, overall appearance & product flow.
- As a leader, carries out all responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Active participant in plant continuous improvement and safety improvement teams.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A safety-focused mindset that complements our culture of empowerment, and expectation for each employee to prioritize safety in all aspects of their work.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or manufacturing discipline. Technical training, solid working experience, exceptional technical skill sets in machining, and leadership capabilities may be considered a substitute.
- 3-5 years of CNC operations experience and a high-level understanding of CNC milling operations, programming, fixtures, tooling, and the effective use of all. Haas machining experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with machining metrics technology and a keen understanding of how it applies to the day-to-day performance of the department.
- Proven leadership capabilities with a work history of progressive leadership roles in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Strong written and oral communication skills. The ability to present views clearly and compellingly across all levels of the organization including the executive level.
- Proven ability to improve operations in a CNC manufacturing environment to achieve key metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Some level of 5S, Six Sigma, and/or Continuous Improvement certification, and/or formal training.
- Excellent technical acumen to include MS Office, and Microsoft Dynamics; a proven ability to leverage technology to the advantage of the business.
- Demonstrated problem-analysis and problem-solving skills.
- A competitive spirit, with a can-do attitude. A team player who works with a sense of urgency.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, feel, and control objects or tools. The employee is regularly required to stand and occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level is relatively loud. The employee is required to wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes and follow all Safety parameters and rules.
