This function provides learning and development experiences that drive organizational effectiveness, by enhancing employees’ skills, performance and capabilities. This position partners with departments across the organization to understand business needs and develop or source relevant solutions to support strategic objectives. The incumbent will work with business partners as an advisor and consultant to assess department and employee specific training needs and deploy programs, using a variety of learning mediums, for all employee levels that address the needs of the department. The Manager, Learning and Development will collaborate with Talent Partners to design and deliver training that aligns with JD Finish Line’s business need, and hold ownership of all programs that support such efforts. This leader will effectively exhibit JD Finish Line’s core values of Customer, People, Winning, Community, and Financial Responsibility in everything they do by performing the following key duties: Ensure that Learning and Development programs support and foster a high performing culture and assist with defining JD Finish Line as The Place to Grow. Leads academic pathways and programs such as the JD Retail Academy and Diversity & Inclusion efforts, and supports the Talent Acquisition team with the Corporate Academy (internal internship program). In partnership with the Talent team, is active in succession & career pathing strategies, and provides learning content catered to support internal growth. Plans, launches, monitors, and acts on learning initiatives that are aligned with the organization’s strategic goals. Develops, tracks, and communicates key metric performance of development programs. Ensures programs and initiatives are keeping the customer and the audience top of mind at all times. Partners with department leaders across the organization to assist them in planning and executing department specific development programs and micro-learnings. Partners with Talent Partner team to identify development needs from data gathered through performance management, talent touch bases, exit data, engagement data and other forums of employee/leader feedback. Leverage the Learning Management System to offer greater ease of use and a more satisfying experience for end users, and facilitate their timely and complete execution of employee learning activities. Remains current in best practices to continuously evaluate learning and development initiatives, policies and procedures, and revises as needed. Manages all learning vendors to ensure the organization is equipped with industry leading tools and resources to most effectively bring training to life. Directly supervises employees. Removes obstacles that hinder successful team performance. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Additional duties and projects as required. Required Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and at least 5-7 years additional progressive experience in learning or training, or retail leadership, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Direct report leadership experience strongly preferred. Required Computer and/or Technical Skills Should have at least intermediate knowledge and abilities with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, or Google Suite Equivalents, as well as a working understanding of functions and relationships of information in the HRIS and LMS functionality. Intermediate knowledge of e-learning authoring tool is a plus.
