Summary:
Responsible for the production process of fragrance compounds, ensuring that compounds are blended in accordance with Formula and procedural requirements, packaging, and other customer and Agilex requirements. Manages the Production floor operations and supervises personnel.
This position has a strong emphasis on leadership and performance management (communication, establishing expectations, accountability, rewards and recognition.) The Shift Leader must be willing to work closely with all team members and drive continuous improvement efforts for improved safety culture, quality performance, service and department expenses. The Lead will backfill the Shift Supervisor when needed, and communicate KPI performance to all necessary levels of the organization. Ensures that Firmenich’s safety, quality, housekeeping, service (punctuality) and cost standards are met or exceeded in the manufacture of flavor or fragrance products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises all production personnel, performing managerial responsibilities such as decision-making, coaching, motivating, conflict management, delegation, accountability, administration, training, performance reviews, and time and attendance approval including PTO scheduling.
Responsible for workflow: coordinates and prioritizes work to ensure timeliness, providing follow-up and expediting when necessary; distributes work to assigned personnel depending on work requirements. Ensures that work is completed in the allotted time.
Responsible for ensuring production processes are followed, providing assistance and guidance on procedures and processes; reviewing of the Work Order and Formula for production planning, material requirements, appropriateness and availability of equipment and personnel.
Responsible to effectively communicate and coordinate between departments in situations such as resolving ambiguities, changes to order, rushes, lack of materials, and any other situation whereby the original order requirements or Agilex Fragrances’ normal processes are changed.
Ensures products are handled and stored to prevent damage and deterioration.
Responsible for all equipment, ensuring proper working condition, maintaining/calibrating as required, preventing unintended use of nonconforming equipment, and verifying product quality when necessary.
Responsible for raw material planning, taking into account order quantities, minimum /maximum stock levels and packaging. Safely operates fork truck, electric drum lift (Hi-Lo), gram scale, floor scale, hot plate, steam vats and batch vats.
Responsible for overall safety and environmental compliance related to the production floor, including housekeeping maintenance; providing direct supervision during any performance of hazardous duties such as working with dangerous chemicals (i.e. phenol) and highly heated substances (i.e. elemi gum resin); ensuring personnel adhere to safety practices, procedures, and regulations, including use of proper PPE; job specific safety training such as specific chemicals, personal protective equipment, and respirators.
In absence of Director of Operations, is primary point of contact for local, state and federal inspectors.
Continuously identifies opportunities to improve productivity through system, process and work flow improvements.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalency (GED) required.
4 years fragrance compounding experience
Supervisory/management experience (Min. 2 years in leadership position).
Understands OSHA and other safety/regulatory requirements, chemical safety.
Prior equipment operator experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience handling chemicals.
Knowledge of compounding and an understanding of special formula instructions.
Must have at least 3- 5 years of packing and compounding experience.
Equipment operator experience in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge of G.M.P’s (Good Manufacturing Practices)
Knowledge of H.A.C.C.P (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points)
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Language Ability:
Ability to read standard operating procedures, company policies and procedures, GMP procedures, safety and sanitary procedures and equipment readings.
Ability to provide feedback to Supervision in all critical areas such as equipment conditions.
Ability to complete written and electronic batch records.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervision and employees.
Math Ability:
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, measurements and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to conduct or learn conversion of metric to English measure, Density/SPG calculations
