POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Teller

POSITION PURPOSE

To assist members/non-members with their financial transactions, involving the issuance and receipt of cash and other negotiable instruments. To assist in maintaining the systems required to support those functions. To promote and cross-sell credit union products and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Receives and processes member/non-member financial transactions, including but not limited to deposits, withdrawals, transfer, loan payments, check-cashing, foreign Visa Cash advances, and issuance of negotiable instruments. Assesses fees for transaction type as outlined in procedures or the fee schedule. To assist in maintaining the systems required to support these functions.
  • Provides routine information concerning their account. Directs member to appropriate department for more complex or specialized service needs.
  • Maintains member records.
  • Takes an active role in learning and understanding our members’ needs and to fulfill those needs by cross-selling the appropriate credit union products and services. To increase member awareness of the products and services offered by the Credit Union.
  • Assists with opening and closing of the branch.
  • To maintain onsite ATM. This includes but not limited to the loading of cash and balancing the machine.
  • To assist in the management and operation of the cash vault, cash dispenser, and coin machine. This includes but not limited to the loading and emptying of cash, processing cash shipments, preparing cash shipments, inputting transactions onto the mainframe and balancing its cash totals.
  • Assists with safe deposit operations.
  • Balances cash drawer and daily transactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS

  • Job duties are efficiently, accurately, and effectively performed in accordance with established policies and standards.
  • Security procedures are understood and adhered to by all Service Representatives.
  • Teller cash drawers are to be balanced within fifteen minutes after the branch has shutdown or within fifteen minutes of serving their last member. Any balancing discrepancies should be reported to the manager on duty.
  • To meet balancing standards as defined in policy and procedures.
  • Good business relations exist with members. Members' problems or questions are courteously and promptly resolved.
  • To establish a good working relationship through teamwork and coordination with co-workers and management, both within and external to the department.
  • To insure that reports and records are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • The Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.
  • Transaction levels, balancing, errors, etc. are in line with Credit Union standards.
  • Comply with the Information Security Policy and the Business Ethics and Conduct Code.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Training for Tellers certification completed and passed.

Required Knowledge:

  • A thorough knowledge of Teller operations and procedures
  • Basic understanding of Credit Union operations, including closing accounts, loans, IRA and certificate procedures
  • Understanding of Credit Union philosophy
  • Knowledge of basic accounting

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of six months to two years of experience as a financial service representative at a full-service financial institution.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Talking:

  • Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

Repetitive Motion:

  • Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Finger Dexterity:

  • Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.

Average Visual Abilities:

  • Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.

Physical Strength:

  • Standing throughout the day; movement of sitting down/standing up. Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization.

Mathematics Ability:

  • Ability to perform basic math skills and to use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.

Language Ability:

  • Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5-6,000 words; to read at a slow rate; define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation.
  • Ability to write complex sentences, using proper punctuation, and use adjectives and adverbs.
  • Ability to communicate in complex sentences; using normal word order with present and past tenses; using a good vocabulary.

The image of First Peoples Credit Community FCU is, in many instances, a reflection of our employees. Quality service, positive behavior, appropriate member relations, and professional personal appearance are key factors in creating and maintaining a favorable business image and upholding our culture. It is imperative that all staff cooperates and adheres to our dress code and appearance guidelines, whether or not an employee is in direct contact with members. Your individual professional image is vital to career success.

Employees must exercise independent judgment about their choice of work appropriate clothing. Employees can wear casual clothing that is comfortable and practical for work, but not distracting or ill – fitting (not too tight or too baggy). Because no dress code can cover all contingencies, if you experience uncertainty about acceptable, professional business casual attire for work, please ask your supervisor or Human Resources. The following list includes but is not limited to acceptable and unacceptable clothing items:

Keep in mind that some employees may be allergic to the chemicals in perfumes and cologne so they should be worn modestly.

Hats and Head Coverings

Hats are not appropriate in the office. Head covers that are required for religious purposes or to honor cultural tradition are allowed.

Tattoos

First Peoples Community FCU permits employees to display tattoos at the workplace within the following guidelines. Factors that management will consider to determine whether tattoos may pose a conflict with the employee’s job or work environment include:

1. Offensiveness to co-workers, members, vendors or others in the workplace based on racial, sexual, religious, ethnic, or other characteristics or attributes of a sensitive or legally protected nature.

2. Tattoos that are deemed by the management team to be in “poor taste” or “excessive”.

3. Corporate or societal norms.

4. Member complaints.

5. Tattoos that would be visible from the chest up. This includes tattoos of the chest, front of shoulders, front of neck, and face will not be permitted to show at the work place.

6. Permanent make up that is compliant with the grooming policy is acceptable.

Note: If management determines that an employee’s tattoos may present such a conflict, the employee will be encouraged to identify appropriate options, such as covering of tattoos.

Personal Hygiene

All employees are expected to maintain appropriate personal hygiene and grooming practices. Facial hair shall be kept short and groomed. Long unkempt facial hair will not be permitted in the work place. Hair must be a natural human hair color and styled in a professional manner. Clothing is required to be clean, pressed, tailored (if necessary), and in appropriate condition.

Travel/Training

Employees are expected to exercise reasonable judgment when dressing for work travel and attending training conferences. If you are unsure what the dress code requirements are for the particular session, you can reach out to the event organizer to find out the requirements or wear business casual or business attire. Employees are expected to uphold the Credit Unions professional image while on work travel as well as in the branch during normal business hours.

Conclusion

Evaluating professional dress is challenging at best. All staff of First Peoples Community FCU are asked to be respectful of supervisors, coworkers and members by adhering to the outlined guidelines and using common sense judgment when dressing for work each day. If dress and appearance do not reflect the image and standards set by the Credit Union, you will be subject to corrective action. If you report to work dressed inappropriately, you may be sent home without pay, to dress in accordance with the dress code and appearance guidelines.

Exceptions

Exclusions to the dress code and appearance policy for religious, ethnic, cultural or health reasons will be evaluated by Human Resources, EVP of Operations, and President/CEO.
