SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The VP of Build-to-Rent Construction oversees all aspects of new construction projects in all markets that support the goals of FirstKey Homes. This role will lead the development of a new construction and build to rent business and be responsible for managing and executing the business to ensure standards and expectations related to quality, budget, and schedule are met or exceeded.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Monitor upcoming new home construction property acquisitions, project pipeline and delivery schedule to coordinate efforts across functional groups in the regions.
- Manage major decision approvals necessary for the build out of a new home construction business unit (e.g. business plans, new projects, financings, sales, budgets)
- Lead the execution and management of new home construction and build to rent, including negotiating, structuring, underwriting, funding, and closing of current and future new home construction partners
- Manage the centralized process of review and acceptance of all new home construction budgets. Review changes to budgeted pricing to ensure consistency of pricing and necessity of work.
- Oversee the use of operational software resources and reports to ensure best practices and data integrity. Conduct periodic field and data audits to ensure projects are performed to standard.
- Implement quality control measures in the home construction process to ensure the functional quality of the homes prior to resident move in.
- Work with the Chief Administrative Officer to develop, pilot, and implement new initiatives
- Pull and analyze data from FirstKey Homes databases to identify strengths and weaknesses of the new home construction pipeline. Use results to forecast any adjustments and influence change for efficiency.
- Provide detailed review of the spend associated with the new construction of homes across the company.
- Report updates and insights about new home construction projects to leadership. Provide recommendations to influence changes for efficiency and best practices.
- Monitor team performance against company goals. When necessary provide action plans for improvement.
- Monitor and support the team by assisting in sourcing new talent that can add value to FirstKey Homes.
- Anticipate roadblocks that employees may encounter and proactively identify solutions to overcome barriers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in construction management with a home builder or similar role,
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience using mobile construction technologies (Yardi, FotoNotes, RenoWalk or similar software)
- Experience with building permits and dealing with building officials
- Knowledge of construction practices and project sequencing
- Experience preparing/approving scopes of work, construction schedules and cost estimates
- Experience managing multiple direct reports and interfacing with senior management
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in residential construction or renovation a plus
- Experience managing multiple projects across multiple states
- Experience working in a fast paced, high-growth company
