FirstLight is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant – Expense Cycle to join our growing team!
General Statement of Duties:
The Accountant – Expense Cycle is a member of the Finance team and will be responsible for various accounting duties. This position will report to our Assistant Controller – Expense Cycle, and requires a general technical accounting background, extreme detail-oriented work ethic, a self-starting “roll-up your sleeves” attitude, and strong written and oral communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain certain general ledger accounts through the processing of transactions in the financial accounting system
- Assist in month-end close process by analyzing expense accounts to ensure the accuracy of financial results and the adequacy of monthly accruals
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations as part of the month-end and year-end close processes, including but not limited to; prepaid expenses and commissions, accrued expenses and commissions, and accrued salaries and benefits.
- Calculate monthly commission payments to direct sales team and managers based on monthly sales and installation results
- Calculate monthly commission payments to channel and enterprise partners based on monthly billing data
- Validate and close out sales opportunities in Salesforce and coordinating directly with direct sales team for additional information as needed
- Assist accounts payable team in routing invoices for approval and entering invoices into the accounting system, as needed
- Assist the accounts payable team with check processing duties, as needed
- Assist the senior finance team in producing accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and other recurring reporting as requested
- Suggest and implement accounting processes, control procedures, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of two (2) years relevant accounting experience; public accounting experience preferred
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
- Advanced computer skills with the ability to compile complex spreadsheets to create meaningful and concise communications. Aptitude to learn and navigate sophisticated accounting systems as well as advanced experience with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills with the ability to prioritize projects efficiently
- Telecommunications/technology experience preferred, but not required
