Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Fisk University seeks a talented faculty member a passion for teaching and learning.  The selected faculty will be expected to provide academic advising, mentoring to students, student support, enrollment initiatives, and other activities related to the college experience.  The selected faculty will work as a team player to support the initiatives of the criminal justice program.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS    
•    Teach a full load (12 hours per semester) in Criminal Justice
•    Engage in Community Service projects
•    Engage in Scholarly Research
•    Attend and present at Professional Conferences in the field of expertise
•    Recruit students into the Criminal Justice program

•    Assist with academic advising for Criminal Justice and Homeland Security academic majors.
•    Conducting Junior and Senior audits for the Criminal Justice and Homeland Security majors.
•    Preparing class schedules and submitting to the Discipline Coordinator of Criminal Justice.
•    Proposing curricular changes for the Chair’s review.
•    Assist with Routine monitoring the progress and outcomes of faculty/student advising interventions.
•    Assist with Routine supervising tasks related to student admissions, transfer, and graduation into the program.
•    Overseeing and monitoring the accuracy and currency of program content placed on the departmental section of the University’s website and Smart Catalog.
•    Assisting the Department in developing and implementing initiatives that support the University’s student engagement and retention plans to recruit, retain, and increase the graduation rate of students at Fisk majoring in the Criminal Justice program.
•    Providing internship opportunities for criminal justice and homeland security students.
•    Some online teaching experiences are recommended.
•    Overseeing all program collaborative initiatives; and
•    Ensuring that the program faculty course rosters, syllabi, and course assessment data are timely submitted to the Chairs.

Additional Responsibilities include.

•    Gathering data and preparing detailed documents/reports.
•    Representing the departments and the University.
•    Serving on or chairing committees as appropriate; and
•    Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Humanities and Behavioral Social Sciences.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applicants must demonstrate leadership skills by carrying out curricular development, excellence in teaching and scholarly activity and growth in funded research.   

Ability to work with diverse population groups. 

Good Communication Skills and the ability to work with others.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education: An earned doctorate (Ph. D) from an accredited university or college in Sociology, or Criminal Justice preferred.

Experience:  A minimum of one year of teaching experience in a higher educational environment in emergency management and homeland security.
Demonstrated field experience at the local, state, or federal level in homeland security.
Demonstrate experience in GIS.

Licenses or Certificates: None required.

Additional Requirements: 

A background and/or credit check will be required of the successful applicant. In addition to submitting a cover letter, candidates must submit current CV, and a statement of their current teaching philosophy is also required. Candidates must also submit a list of current of references as well as unofficial transcripts of all academic work completed at or above the Baccalaureate level.  An official transcript (if applicable) and names, addresses and phone numbers of three (3) references will be required of the successful applicant. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions:
Working conditions - Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.

Physical Effort - Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

Physical Risk - Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risk.
