Five Keys Overview

Five Keys was founded in 2003 by the San Francisco Sheriffs Department as the first accredited charter high school in the nation to provide diploma programs for adults in county jails. Today we are a much different social justice non-profit agency that has expanded its charter schools into 9 counties, in 24 jail locations and over 80 community learning centers. In addition to our schools, now we also run multiple homeless shelters, employment programs, programs for the unsheltered, reentry programs and housing for women suffering from immense injustice.

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Manager - Transitional Work Programs position reports to Assistant Director - Transitional Work Programs and is accountable for overseeing crews of up to eight workers including full-time supervisors assigned as van driver(s). The Program Manager will meet with all supervisors in person and/or scheduled Zoom calls to troubleshoot any employee issues or crew assignments. This role will meet regularly with contractor liaisons to take direction on projects and current events. On a weekly basis, the Program Manager will meet with the Transition Coordinator to brief them on the current progress of transitions and other projects. This role is responsible for managing personnel, program data, written reports and monthly invoices.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travel in the field weekly to meet with teams, addressing any current issues, growth and development
  • Must maintain crew size according to contract minimums, including backup driver
  • Drive a Five Keys passenger van with participants and towing a 10 foot equipment trailer to multiple sites in the LA Area when needed
  • Meet with Lead Supervisors, crew members, crew supervisor and contract liaison as necessary
  • Work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with with our subcontractors, internal staff and leadership team, HR department, the community and those we serve
  • Maintain a current pipeline of recruits for hire through partners and contractor liaison
  • Manage onboarding and training of new crew members
  • Accountable for the care and maintenance of program equipment and resources
  • Order PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for all crews
  • Through operations, verify at ALL times enough water and supplies are available for crews
  • Must be available by cell phone during normal work hours for technical instructions and emergencies
  • Provide weekly updates to VP of Transitional Employment
  • Attend zoom and on-site meetings as needed
  • Assist with expense management and ensure billing is submitted on time for review; collaborate to resolve issues when identified
  • Lead by example and develop Five Keys staff through training, coaching and support
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Proficiency with technology: internet, Zoom, email, Google Forms/Sheets/Drives, databases, etc
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality and take all precautions when handling sensitive information

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of experience in an office setting, performing administrative tasks, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred 2 years experience managing staff
  • Preferred 2 years experience working with diverse populations

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • To promote the health and safety of its employees, those we serve and our local communities, Five Keys requires that all employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and/or adhere to all weekly testing and safety measures.   • Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed
  • Must be able to carry landscaping tools and equipment (at least 20lbs)
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, light rain)
  • Must be able to bend/stoop continuously
  • Must be able to stand on hillsides and slopes while using landscaping tools/equipment
  • Frequent talking and hearing conversations
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting
  • Frequent reaching with hands and arms
  • Ability to provide verbal directions in emergency situations

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is contingent upon:

  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must possess a valid California drivers license and car insurance and be accepted under Five Keys company motor vehicle policy

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, light rain) if needed to support staff in the field
  • Moderate to high noise level
  • Work environment varies from site to site
  • Some personal safety risk working in underserved communities
