Position Overview
General Laborers are responsible for performing various jobs and operating of various types of mobile equipment on the construction site. Employees will complete both directed and independent work, as assigned, to various jobs, within a worksite with the direction of the Director of Shared Services or Project Manager. Employees are expected to operate all equipment in a safe manner. Basic mechanical skills are required for the maintenance of equipment and assistance with overall plant and equipment maintenance. This position is part of our traveling construction crew and can expect to travel up to 100% of the time to construction sites, as needed.
Job Duties
Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Construction labor duties, including but not limited to moving, loading, and unloading equipment
- Digging, laying of pipe, trenching, and operating digging equipment
- Mobile equipment operations of, but not limited to, wheeled loader, excavator, dozer, haul truck, skid loader, and screener
- Assist maintenance department in maintaining the mobile equipment
- General labor, as needed
Skills/Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of mobile equipment experience
- Willing to travel 100% from work location to work location, be on site for extended periods
- Capable of climbing stairs and access ladders several times per day
- In good general health
- Basic mechanical skills
- Able and willing to work extended work schedules, overtime, weekends, and call ins, as necessary
- Understand and comply with mining safety and environmental regulations
- Ability to be cross-trained to assume other responsibilities
Additional Requirements
- Pass toxicity test
- Medical clearance to wear respiratory protection
- Team-oriented, effective communicator (verbal and written), able to offer technical expertise and guidance, and have the ability and willingness to build rapport with team members and external agencies
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities appropriately
- Willingness to further training or education, if requested
- Experienced in safety-related practices and OSHA/MSAH compliance requirements
- Current computer applications knowledge, including word processing and spreadsheets
- Ability to work independently and objectively
- Communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic
- Proficient with Windows-based programs computer operating systems, specifically Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Lift up to 100 pounds, use their hands to handle, control, or feel, objects, tools, or controls, stand for long periods of time, bend or twist their body, repeat the same movements, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl, walk or run for long periods of time

*Per Diem is paid out for working days when employee is 50 miles away from home.
*Standard schedule is 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, but may vary depending on job site needs.
* Pay commensurate with experience.
