Proficiency Levels:
Carpenter/Packer C (Grade 3) – Entry Level, works within the production department to gain understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts. Provides hands on labor. Participates in subject matter training as required to gain basic skills.
Carpenter/Packer B (Grade 4) – Intermediate Level, applies fundamental principles and concepts. Performs the more routine aspects and progresses to more varied and complex activities with development of additional knowledge and experience in the subject matter. Participates in subject matter training as required to gain complex skills.
Carpenter/Packer A (Grade 6) – Advanced Level, continuing development level, performs more varied and difficult aspects of position compared to Level 1. At this level the employee would have less latitude than at Level III in terms of decision making and un-reviewed actions. However, this level requires considerable know-how of the subject matter, principles, and concepts. Participates in subject matter training as required to more complex skills.
Carpenter/Packer Sr. (Grade 8) – Senior Level Competent in subject matter, principles, knowledge, and concepts; generally considered a specialist in area. Able to perform full scope of activities associated with job which includes the most difficult aspects. Able to train complex skills to lower level technicians.
Summary/Objective
Fabricates and assembles without supervision all wooden pallets, boxes, cabinets, or other shopping structures for packing and shipping of all Simulator training devices or components for transporting to the required destination safely.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Reads blueprints, shipping notices, and types of transportation and other specifications to determine means of shipping.
Inspects product to determine size and shape of container materials to be used and types of supports and braces to be used.
Lays out dimensions on materials with ruler, measuring tape and pencil. Saws materials to size.
Assembles materials.
Places product in container.
Wraps and pads product with appropriate packing material.
Builds crates or containers around large or odd shaped articles. Screws cover on crate.
Wraps and tightens banding material around crate.
Attaches identification label or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight and type of product contained on crate as required.
Repairs broken crates as necessary.
Counts items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders. Weigh loaded crate.
Loads trucks as necessary.
Moves container to shipping area and movers lumber and other wrapping supplies to crating area.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: (Minimum Requirements)
C (Grade 3) - High School diploma or equivalent. Some related experience preferred.
B (Grade 4) - High School diploma or equivalent. One year related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have full understanding of truck loading techniques, rigging techniques and aircraft loading techniques
A (Grade 6) - High School diploma or equivalent. Four years related experience and/or training. Must have full understanding of truck loading techniques, rigging techniques and aircraft loading techniques.
Sr. (Grade 8) - -High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Must be fully competent in skills as defined by established carpenter/packer skills matrix. Minimum of Eight years’ experience at flightsafety for this position.
SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Microsoft office tools a plus
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines. Must be able to use wood shop hand tools and power equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; Able to read and interpret documents: Able to write routine reports and correspondence: Able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; Able to apply concepts of basic algebra.
REASONING ABILITY:
Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver’s License and be able to pass company required forklift training
