What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Flint Jewish Federation?
The Controller is the Chief Financial Officer for the Flint Jewish Federation and Jewish Community Services. The Controller is responsible for supervising and maintaining the accounting department. This responsibility entails all accounting tasks from distribution of petty cash through financial statements of both the Flint Jewish Federation and FJF d/b/a Jewish Community Services, and for communicating significant fiscal events. This position safeguards and administers the organizations financial assets, such as: bonds, stocks, restricted funds and general funds. The financial person is responsible with collaboration with our auditors for ensuring compliance with reporting requirements of federal, state and local governmental and other authoritative bodies. The Controller assists in the submission of new grants and provides financial budget information for all approved grants in their fiscal year. The person will maintain the computerized software accounting system for two general ledgers, fundraising, spreadsheets and word processing.
This person must have the ability to anticipate financial and budget dilemmas and possess the skill to help solve problems of short-run liquidity and financial stability. This position requires 2-5 years of fund accounting experience. Education preferred is a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. The Controller should have strong computer science skills and the ability to learn new software programs. The position requires a working knowledge of budgets, payroll, grants and governmental requirements. This candidate should be able to handle and have the knowledge of every accounting task, since both agencies consist of a small staff force, this is essential.
Will consult with the FJF Executive Director to oversee all administrative functions including staff, maintenance of building and equipment.
